Instructor of Computer Information Technology

Position Overview

This full-time academic year term contract role in Computer Information Technology reports directly to the Dean of Arts, Sciences, & Technologies. The position involves teaching, program coordination, curriculum development, and community engagement within the Computer Information Technology domain, focusing on networking, security, operating systems, and CCNA certification preparation.

Key Responsibilities

• Deliver approximately 30 teaching load equivalent (TLE) hours per academic year covering networking, security, operating systems, and CCNA prep using diverse instructional formats such as traditional, online, hybrid, and technology-mediated classrooms.
• Coordinate the Computer Information Technology program, overseeing and maintaining the advisory committee and programmatic accreditation especially for CIT – Networking.
• Support and promote the college's eSports team.
• Potentially teach across multiple campus locations with assignments varying by semester based on demand.
• Handle diverse student demographics including Dual Enrollment high school students and adult learners, managing multiple courses and individualized instruction.
• Recruit students from local high schools and communities to enhance program viability and competitiveness.
• Adapt to flexible teaching schedules including evenings, weekends, and off-campus environments, requiring use of a personal vehicle.
• Implement learner-centered teaching methodologies incorporating research-based strategies such as service-learning, critical thinking, cooperative learning, and discipline-integrated reading improvements.
• Develop web-enhanced and technologically supported courses for various delivery platforms including Zoom and remote sites.
• Create cooperative education and capstone experiences for students.
• Revise curriculum and select instructional materials in collaboration with colleagues, ensuring accessibility across formats.
• Become certified and proficient in the course management system for all classes.
• Participate in continuous assessment of course effectiveness and implement improvement plans each semester.
• Engage in professional development and uphold memberships in relevant professional organizations.
• Mentor adjunct instructors and contribute to course scheduling aligned with community data trends.
• Support student activities such as club sponsorship and campus event participation.
• Provide student advising with scheduled office hours and maintain Master Advisor certification.
• Obtain relevant software certifications as required.
• Assist with grant writing and management efforts.
• Willingness to teach in correctional facilities if needed.
• Contribute to STEM-related events and other assigned duties.

Working Conditions

• Primarily sedentary desk work with occasional travel related to college activities.
• Capacity to lift up to 50 lbs.
• Standard office environment with basic health and comfort controls.

Required Qualifications

• Strong oral and written communication skills in English.
• Prompt communication via various electronic means such as email, voicemail, and text, generally within a 72-hour timeframe.
• Proficiency in Microsoft Office applications.
• Capability to teach, evaluate student performance, and maintain necessary records.
• Collaborative ability to work with faculty and college committees.

Education and Experience

• Bachelor's degree in Computer Information Technology, Computer Science, Information Systems, or related field, plus documented knowledge or skills from work experience and/or certifications.
• Prior teaching experience required.

Preferred Credentials

• Master’s degree with at least 18 graduate credit hours closely related to Information Technology or Computer Science.
• Experience teaching online and/or in community college settings.
• IT security certification and system administrator experience.
• Familiarity with communication platforms such as Zoom and Microsoft Teams.

Salary and Benefits

The position offers a salary range from $45,227 to $55,353 annually.
