Company Overview
nahcoaviance (Nigerian Aviation Handling Company Plc) is a major ground-handling provider serving Nigeria’s aviation sector. With operations at all key airports in the country, the business was founded in 1979 by the Federal Government in collaboration with international airlines. Over time, it became a publicly listed company through privatization and expanded into a large multi-billion-naira group with interests in energy, logistics, and free trade zone development. Its ownership includes major institutional investors, giving it a stable structure and a long-term growth outlook.
Role Summary
This full-time, on-site HSEQ Officer position is based in Abuja. The role is responsible for managing day-to-day health, safety, environment, and quality activities, ensuring alignment with company policies, applicable regulations, and industry standards.
Key Duties
The HSEQ Officer will carry out risk assessments, site and workplace inspections, and safety audits across operational areas. The position also requires tracking HSEQ performance, preparing reports, and supporting the development and rollout of policies, procedures, and safe working practices. In addition, the officer will help investigate incidents, identify root causes, follow up on corrective and preventive actions, and work closely with operational teams to strengthen safety performance and environmental responsibility.
Training and Compliance Support
This role includes planning and delivering safety briefings, toolbox talks, and awareness sessions for employees. The officer will also be expected to maintain complete HSEQ records and documentation, while promoting continuous improvement in the organization’s safety culture.
Qualifications and Experience
Applicants should have a strong foundation in health and safety, with hands-on experience applying safety programs in operational or industrial settings. A good understanding of environmental health and safety practices, occupational health concepts, hazard recognition, risk control, and related measures is required. Candidates should also hold NEBOSH or an equivalent HSE certification and be familiar with both local and international safety regulations and standards.
A bachelor’s degree, or equivalent practical experience, in Safety Management, Environmental Science, Engineering, or a similar discipline is expected. Experience in aviation, logistics, or another high-risk industry will be an advantage.
Working Style
The ideal candidate should be detail-oriented, analytical, and comfortable handling reports and documentation. Strong communication and training ability are important, along with the confidence to influence safe behavior at every level of the business. The role also calls for initiative, integrity, and the ability to work both independently and as part of a cross-functional team in Abuja.
