Position Summary
As the Head of Procurement, you will lead and oversee the procurement department, responsible for acquiring materials, equipment, and services crucial for ship repair, maintenance, and shipbuilding projects. Your role focuses on achieving cost-effective purchasing while maintaining superior standards of quality, compliance, and supplier performance.
Key Responsibilities
- Lead and manage a team of procurement professionals including buyers, analysts, and support staff to ensure efficient task distribution and high productivity.
- Develop and enforce procurement policies, procedures, and best practices to optimize operations and ensure compliance with industry standards.
- Collaborate with project managers and other department leads to align procurement plans with project timelines and objectives.
- Evaluate supplier performance and maintain strong supplier relationships to secure reliable supply chains and reduce risk.
- Conduct ongoing training and development for procurement staff to enhance capabilities.
- Monitor procurement metrics such as cost savings, supplier performance, and inventory levels, and report findings to senior management.
- Lead negotiations with suppliers and contractors to secure advantageous terms and conditions.
- Keep abreast of market trends, supplier offerings, and pricing to guide procurement decisions.
- Implement and manage procurement software and tools to improve process efficiency and visibility.
- Manage procurement budgets ensuring cost control and compliance with financial targets.
- Assess and mitigate risks related to procurement and supply chain disruptions.
- Maintain quality assurance standards for all procured materials and services, ensuring adherence to relevant regulations.
- Identify and execute continuous improvements for procurement processes to boost efficiency and effectiveness.
- Prepare detailed reports and presentations on procurement activities, savings, and supplier evaluation for senior leadership.
- Ensure all procurement activities comply with legal, regulatory, and ethical standards.
Required Qualifications and Competencies
- Bachelor's degree in Business Administration, Supply Chain Management, or related discipline; a Master’s degree is an advantage.
- 7 to 10 years of experience in procurement or supply chain management, including 3 to 5 years in a leadership position.
- Demonstrated success in negotiation with suppliers and contractors.
- Deep understanding of market trends, supplier capabilities, and pricing in the marine or industrial sectors.
- Strong analytical skills to interpret data and market conditions impacting procurement.
- Effective leadership and team management abilities to mentor and develop team members.
- Excellent communication and interpersonal skills to collaborate effectively with various stakeholders.
- Proven project management skills to oversee multiple priorities efficiently.
- Proficiency with procurement software, ERP systems, and data analytics tools.
