Program Overview

Embark on a career start in mining by joining Whitehaven's 2027 Graduate Program as a Data Engineer. This two-year initiative is designed to cultivate emerging professionals and future leaders by embedding hands-on experience within a leading Australian resources enterprise.

The program integrates on-the-job learning, structured skill development, and mentoring from seasoned site personnel. Participants engage in rotations across various operational sites to gain comprehensive insight into the business and their functional impact.

Rotational locations include mining sites in Gunnedah and Narrabri (New South Wales), Blackwater and Moranbah (Queensland), plus corporate offices in Sydney, Newcastle, and Brisbane.

Key Responsibilities

• Ensure data integrity through quality assurance, validation, governance, and management initiatives.
• Extract, integrate, and transform data from enterprise systems to cloud platforms employing APIs and modern data pipeline techniques.
• Develop and maintain data assets and pipeline configurations utilizing YAML and cloud-native technologies.
• Design AI-enhanced solutions such as Retrieval-Augmented Generation (RAG) pipelines to enable intelligent search and operational assistant capabilities.
• Create dashboards, reports, and automate workflows leveraging Power BI and analytic platforms.
• Work collaboratively with engineering, operations, and business teams to implement data-driven solutions within active mining environments.

Candidate Requirements

• Possession of a degree in Data Engineering, Computer Science, Artificial Intelligence, Software Engineering, or a related discipline.
• Strong enthusiasm for the mining sector.
