General Laborer

Ferrous Processing and Trading (FPT), based in Windsor, Ontario, is a leading North American processor, buyer, seller, and recycler of various scrap metals. As a wholly owned subsidiary of Cleveland-Cliffs, a major steel and iron ore pellet producer, FPT supports the metals industry across North America.

Position Summary and Responsibilities

• Comply with safety protocols including wearing mandatory personal protective equipment (PPE), identifying and removing hazards, and keeping the workplace clean.
• Load and unload materials manually or using mobile machinery from various locations such as storage, production areas, docks, delivery trucks, and staging or container areas.
• Sort scrap materials and metals to segregate high-grade metals and remove any non-conforming or undesirable materials.
• Operate and maintain mobile equipment including forklifts, skid steers, street sweepers, and water trucks.
• Perform manual labor tasks utilizing tools such as standard hand tools, torches, banders, chop saws, alligator shears, sawzalls, and wire snips.
• Identify scrap material grades and types as well as detect contaminants within the scrap.
• Remove fluids from incoming scrap or vehicles as needed.
• Carry out cleaning and general housekeeping duties related to plant equipment and the work environment.
• Assist mechanics in maintaining and repairing plant equipment.
• Engage with customers or drivers to provide directions or assistance.
• Undertake additional general laborer tasks as assigned.

Candidate Requirements

• Minimum age of 18 years.
• Basic literacy and numeracy skills sufficient to read, write, and perform simple math.
• Preferred prior experience in operating mobile equipment.
• Strong communication and interpersonal abilities.
• Capable of maintaining accurate records.
• Able to follow both oral and written instructions efficiently.
• Physically able to climb ladders or steps to access materials.
• Capacity to lift weights up to 50 pounds.
• Willingness to cooperate with colleagues and the public.
• Comfortable working in environments exposed to dust, dirt, noise, vibrations, extreme weather, and temperature variations.
• Must pass pre-employment background check, physical exam, and hair drug screening.

Compensation and Benefits
