Role Overview
The General Foreman role is a full-time, on-site position involving oversight and coordination of daily construction activities. This position requires managing site crews, supervising work progress, and ensuring compliance with safety standards, schedules, project plans, and quality requirements. The foreman is responsible for coordinating resources such as labor, materials, and equipment, while collaborating closely with project managers, subcontractors, and suppliers to solve issues and maintain smooth operations.
Key Responsibilities
- Supervise day-to-day construction tasks, ensuring adherence to schedules and quality standards
- Conduct safety briefings and enforce health and safety policies on site
- Inspect work to verify compliance with project specifications and standards
- Manage allocation of resources including labor, materials, and equipment
- Maintain accurate site documentation and reports
- Provide clear guidance and instructions to construction teams
- Collaborate with project managers and subcontractors to resolve workflow issues
- Identify opportunities for operational improvements to enhance project delivery
Qualifications and Requirements
- Proven leadership and site supervision experience managing construction crews and subcontractors
- Ability to interpret construction drawings, technical specifications, and work schedules
- Solid understanding of construction methods, materials, and equipment applicable to building and infrastructure projects
- Competence in resource management including labor planning and material usage
- Familiarity with occupational health and safety standards and enforcement
- Strong communication and interpersonal skills for effective collaboration with project teams and clients
- Good problem-solving and decision-making skills to address site challenges and maintain timelines
- Experience maintaining project documentation and using site management tools or software
- Previous work as a Foreman or General Foreman on medium to large-scale construction projects
- Relevant technical or trade qualification in construction or civil engineering preferred; supervisory training advantageous
- Willingness and ability to work on-site in Harare, Zimbabwe with flexibility for project needs
