Project overview
This freelance assignment supports a unified visual direction for a dark fantasy and science-fiction universe that spans a book, podcast, mobile game, and board game. The illustrator will help define the look and feel of the entire world through bold, atmospheric artwork with a strong retro-fantasy influence and a hyperreal finish.
What you will create
- A full-color book cover sized at 6 x 9 inches, rendered in a hyperrealistic style inspired by Frank Frazetta and Boris Vallejo.
- Five character portrait illustrations in black and white line art.
- Five color illustrations, approximately 3.5 x 4.5 inches each, inspired by the work of Alexey Gorboot.
- Artwork that consistently reflects the project's dark fantasy and sci-fi visual language across all deliverables.
- Creative coordination with the project lead so the visuals stay aligned with the story, themes, and overall artistic direction.
Requirements
- A strong background as an illustrator, backed by a portfolio showing hyperrealistic fantasy and science-fiction work with a retro feel.
- Comfort using digital art software such as Adobe Photoshop, Procreate, or similar tools.
- The ability to reproduce or closely echo the stylistic qualities associated with Frank Frazetta, Boris Vallejo, and Alexey Gorboot.
- Good knowledge of composition, color use, and character development.
- Clear communication habits and the ability to respond well to creative feedback.
- Capacity to complete polished artwork within the timeline agreed for the project.
- Prior experience creating book covers or illustrations for media projects would be advantageous.
- Remote collaboration is acceptable, though local candidates may be brought in for in-person discussions if needed.
