Role Overview
The FED Engineering Manager will oversee fuel equipment design engineering tasks linked to Babcock Power Services (BPS) projects. This role involves managing department workload planning, supporting proposals, ensuring contract completion, maintaining engineering quality, adhering to schedules, and delivering technical outputs.
Key Responsibilities
- Regularly update the FED Engineering Department's manpower loading plan monthly, aiding decisions on individual assignments, project timelines, overtime needs, and external support.
- Manage contract execution from kickoff meetings through to acceptance test reports and result engineering conclusion.
- Lead proposal initiatives, including preliminary designs, clarifications, exceptions, man-hour estimates, risk assessment, and schedule planning.
- Maintain and update Fuel Equipment Engineering ISO work procedures.
- Conduct yearly performance reviews and submit evaluations for engineering personnel.
- Participate in weekly BPS Engineering contract and proposal status meetings.
- Track contract man-hour estimates and record any changes impacting engineering efforts.
- Monitor contract schedules, note deviations, and coordinate schedule alterations with the project scheduler and Project Engineer.
- Review and approve studies, reports, emissions forecasts, and guarantees.
Required Qualifications
- Bachelor's degree in Mechanical or Chemical Engineering preferred.
- Minimum 15 years' relevant experience such as project engineering, product or design engineering within related industries.
- Strong communication skills—written, verbal, and interpersonal.
- Excellent analytical and computer proficiency, especially in Microsoft Word and Excel.
- Exceptional organizational abilities with the capacity to handle multiple projects under pressure, meet deadlines, and respond rapidly.
Preferred Qualifications
- Background in combustion system design including coal, natural gas, oil, burners, and fuel delivery systems.
- Experience with field start-up and operational processes.
- Knowledge of auxiliary equipment such as filter skids, heaters, valves, strainers, and related components.
- Familiarity with ASME and NFPA codes and product application standards.
Travel
- Valid passport is a requirement.
- Approximately 10% domestic and occasional international travel may be necessary to support projects.
