Executive Officer – Digital, Data & Technology

Overview

Sonic Healthcare is establishing a new position, Executive Officer, Digital, Data & Technology, located centrally within its global technology division. Reporting directly to the Chief Digital, Data and Information Officer (CDDIO), this role is designed to enhance the influence and productivity of the CDDIO and the global CIO team. It involves crafting and advancing the organization’s Digital, Data, and Technology strategy, facilitating value-driven initiatives, and ensuring smooth daily operations across regions and departments. This position transcends traditional technology roles by emphasizing collaboration and influence rather than direct authority, working closely with diverse teams and respecting local leadership expertise in all operating markets.

Key Significance

Handling approximately 129 million patient interactions annually, Sonic Healthcare's diagnostic accuracy and speed significantly rely on connected digital platforms spanning laboratories, clinicians, and patients. This role is pivotal in converting strategic goals into disciplined execution, within a newly formed global function that requires setting priorities, managing investments, and delivering innovation from concept to measurable outcomes.

Primary Functions

• Partner with CDDIO and technology leaders across functions and markets to craft, uphold, and implement the Digital, Data & Technology strategy, aligning daily priorities accordingly.
• Promote innovation by overseeing governance of technology investments and innovations using lean startup and contemporary methodologies.
• Maintain comprehensive and anticipatory roadmaps for digital solutions and services across the group.
• Lead technology innovation projects from feasibility and planning through monitoring and issue mitigation, managing stakeholder transitions effectively.
• Collaborate with Finance to oversee budget controls and assist in preparing presentations for executive and board meetings.
• Support the CDDIO in managing cross-functional and international projects, coordinating efforts across multiple time zones.

Ideal Candidate Profile

• Background in consulting, strategy, finance, operations, or project management, with strong analytical skills seeking exposure to executive decision-making.
• Excellent communicator with high emotional intelligence, adept at engaging with senior leaders and spanning multiple cultures and countries.
• Highly organized and dependable, capable of handling concurrent initiatives efficiently.
• Resourceful, self-driven, and able to work independently with minimal supervision.
• Genuine interest in the functioning of a global healthcare enterprise with a desire to contribute meaningfully.

Qualifications and Experience

• Bachelor’s degree in business administration, information systems, computer science, or related disciplines.
• Approximately 2 to 5 years of professional experience, potentially within top management or IT consulting firms or advisory roles.
• Proficient in developing project plans, team building, and collaborative delivery.
• Strong verbal and written communication skills, with experience in Microsoft 365 and Atlassian software suites.
• Experience with medium to large technology projects is beneficial but not mandatory.

Additional Information

• Workplace location is Sydney; relocation is necessary if not currently based there.
• Some international travel may be required as part of the role.
