Job description
Role Overview
We seek a seasoned Engineering Lead specializing in Electrical Power Supply to be based in Ras Laffan, Qatar. This role entails leadership of all electrical engineering aspects related to the onshore project ensuring full compliance with technical standards, project specifications, and safety requirements.
Key Responsibilities
- Manage and oversee electrical engineering operations for the onshore project, ensuring adherence to specifications, standards, and technical prerequisites.
- Offer expert technical guidance to EPC contractors, subcontractors, and vendors, aiding in resolving electrical engineering challenges effectively.
- Lead the design, procurement, and integration stages of electrical engineering ensuring alignment with project targets and timelines.
- Provide support for electrical engineering tasks during installation, pre-commissioning, site acceptance testing, and commissioning phases.
- Deliver field engineering assistance during start-up and early operational phases, completing performance testing successfully.
- Coordinate and lead planning and design activities related to electrical engineering.
- Review electrical simulations and optimization studies, particularly those concerning power generation, distribution networks, HV switchgear, variable frequency drives, high-capacity motors, and power management systems.
- Evaluate technical details in electrical equipment purchase orders guaranteeing secure integration of components.
- Monitor EPC contractor outputs, milestones, and progress; provide proactive technical support where needed.
- Facilitate electrical engineering interface coordination with offshore and onshore teams, power suppliers, and other stakeholders.
- Support commissioning, startup, and system finalization tasks, offering expert recommendations concerning electrical parameters.
Candidate Requirements
- A Bachelor’s degree in Electrical Engineering is essential.
- Minimum of 8 years’ relevant engineering experience, inclusive of Oil & Gas sector exposure, with no less than 1 year in a leadership, supervisory, or contractor/vendor oversight capacity.
- Prior involvement in a major LNG project is highly advantageous.
- Comprehensive understanding of engineering execution, design standards, specifications, codes, safety norms, and onshore LNG facility operations.
- Well-versed in HV, MV, and LV electrical systems including transformers, switchgear, and power management systems.
- Experience handling electrical system controls, reactive and active power distribution, and motors exceeding 40MW capacity.
- Strong familiarity with high-voltage applications and large-scale onshore power design criteria.
- Fluency in written and verbal English communication.
- Exemplary organizational, planning, coordination, technical leadership, and people management skills.
- Excellent communication and interpersonal influence skills.
- Proficiency in Microsoft Office suite is required.
