Department Overview
The Institute of the Environment and Sustainability (IoES) at UCLA drives environmental science into actionable progress, focusing its efforts on Los Angeles and California as a testing ground. Leveraging broad research centers, field stations, and collaborations with campus partners such as the Emmett Institute on Climate Change and the Luskin Center for Public Policy, IoES tackles urgent environmental challenges at local, national, and global scales.
Role Summary
Reporting to the Chief Administrative Officer, the Director's Coordinator provides high-level administrative and programmatic support to the IoES Director. This includes managing special projects and budgets, interpreting policies, extensive writing and editing of reports and correspondence, maintaining calendars, and organizing domestic and international travel. The role encompasses planning and coordinating events and outreach activities, managing student workers, and assisting with academic personnel tasks connected to faculty hiring.
The Coordinator also supports communications efforts by monitoring diverse digital content related to research, faculty, academic programs, and alumni, and serves as a backup for Finance Coordinator duties including purchasing and reimbursements. Additional responsibilities include front desk duties, website and directory updates, and various special projects.

- Experience managing multiple competing deadlines effectively.

- Teamwork-oriented with ability to build cooperative relationships.
- Familiarity or willingness to learn university systems such as BruinBuy Plus and Concur.
- Flexibility to work occasional overtime and weekends for events.
- Ability to work independently with minimal supervision despite interruptions and fluctuating workloads.
- Proficiency with essential software including Zoom, Microsoft Office, and Google applications.
Education and Requirements
- Bachelor's degree in a related field or equivalent experience/training required.
- Successful completion of a background check and Live Scan prior to employment.
Working Conditions & Schedule
- Standard working hours are 8:00 AM to 5:00 PM.
- Employment is covered under the CX-Clerical & Allied Services union policy.
