Role Overview

We seek a seasoned and strategic Director of Events to spearhead our corporate event vision, planning, and team leadership. This pivotal role manages Varicent's comprehensive event program encompassing company-owned events (virtual and in-person), third-party conferences, trade shows, and regional gatherings. The position demands accountability for the entire event lifecycle: from roadmap creation, scheduling, and budgeting, to execution, follow-up, and analytic reporting.

Key Duties

  • Develop and oversee a strategic events roadmap across all event types including proprietary, third-party, and regional engagements.
  • Construct and sustain the annual and quarterly calendar, advising on event hosting, attendance, sponsorship, and necessary adjustments.
  • Define explicit objectives for each event addressing brand exposure, audience engagement, pipeline development, client retention, and partner interaction.
  • Manage event planning activities including project timelines, budgets, logistics, vendor coordination, and execution.
  • Supervise event logistics—registration, communications, content scheduling, booth setup, AV requirements, staffing, travel arrangements, and more.
  • Direct trade show involvement including booth planning, sponsorship deliverables, attendee engagement, and lead tracking.
  • Collaborate cross-functionally with Marketing, Sales, Customer Success, Legal, Finance, and Leadership teams to align goals and communications.
  • Establish and monitor event budgets, tracking financial transactions and driving cost efficiencies without compromising quality.
  • Identify, negotiate with, and manage event vendors and contractors including contracts, statements of work, and SLAs.
  • Design standardized operating procedures—checklists, templates, reporting frameworks, and success metrics for continuous event improvement.
  • Lead, coach, and empower direct reports and contract staff to meet objectives, deadlines, and quality standards.
  • Proactively identify risks, develop contingency plans, and ensure event safety, accessibility, and compliance.
  • Participate in onsite event management as required, including occasional evenings and weekend commitments.

Required Education & Experience

  • Preferably a bachelor's degree in Marketing, Communications, Business, Hospitality, Event Management, or a related discipline, or equivalent experience.
  • At least 6 years of experience in events, field or experiential marketing, integrated marketing, or B2B marketing roles.
  • Proven track record managing diverse event types from conceptualization through reporting.
  • Demonstrable experience in budget management, vendor negotiations, contract oversight, and cross-team partnership.
  • Familiarity with event and marketing technologies such as Cvent, Swoogo, Zuddl, ON24, Salesforce, HubSpot, and project management tools.
  • Background in B2B SaaS, tech industries, or fast-growth organizations is advantageous.
  • Certifications in project management or event-related fields are beneficial.

Key Competencies

  • Deep understanding of how events drive brand equity, engagement, sales, and retention.
  • Exceptional project management skills capable of juggling multifaceted event initiatives simultaneously.
  • Strong interpersonal and communication skills to maintain alignment with stakeholders, vendors, and teams.
  • Strategic thinking combined with attention to operational details.
  • Proficiency in negotiating vendor contracts and managing financial accountability.
  • Data-driven approach to measuring event success and iterative improvement.
  • Ability to develop and standardize processes and frameworks for event execution excellence.
  • Calm and effective crisis resolution during live events.
  • Meticulous with logistics, compliance, risk management, and branding requirements.
  • Capability to use diverse event platforms, CRM, and analytics tools efficiently.
  • Adaptable and poised under pressure, maintaining professionalism in fast-paced environments.
