Role Summary
As Director of Compliance reporting to the CFO, you will take ownership of the company's compliance program, overseeing policy development, enforcement, monitoring, and reporting across all relevant regulatory frameworks. You will serve as a proactive expert identifying risks early and offering actionable guidance, focusing especially on privacy and security advisory. Your ability to translate compliance concerns into business implications will assist leadership in making informed decisions.
Key Responsibilities
- Lead and manage the end-to-end compliance program, ensuring adherence to federal, state, and local regulations.
- Maintain and enforce compliance policies and procedures consistently among employees, agents, and contractors.
- Develop and manage the internal risk assessment process, communicating risks and recommendations clearly to leadership.
- Oversee audit and investigation processes and manage interactions with external consultants such as legal and regulatory advisors.
- Promote a company-wide culture of compliance and ethical behavior.
- Maintain SOC 2 certification and coordinate customer and partner IT/security assessments in collaboration with Engineering/IT teams.
- Act as the primary point of contact for compliance and data-sharing inquiries from customers and partners.
- Conduct impact assessments related to data-sharing and compliance issues affecting partners, translating outcomes into clear guidance.
- Train and support internal teams on compliance requirements related to data-sharing to confidently handle queries.
- Manage policies, approval workflows, and contract records for Business Associate Agreements and Third-Party/Data Use Agreements.
- Advise on protection of sensitive internal and customer data, including PHI/PII, applying risk-based decisions beyond simple compliance checklists.
- Own HIPAA and relevant state-level breach determination and notification processes.
Qualifications and Experience
- A minimum of 7 years in compliance, privacy, or regulatory roles, preferably within biopharma or pharmaceutical services sectors.
- In-depth knowledge of HIPAA, SOC 2, CCPA/CPRA, with working understanding of GDPR and pharma industry codes.
- Proven experience managing SOC 2 attestations and customer security assessments.
- Hands-on experience overseeing Business Associate Agreements and Data Use Agreement policies and processes.
- Excellent judgment in legal and regulatory interpretation and pragmatic application of policies.
- Strong customer-facing skills, capable of advising at all organizational levels including executive leadership.
- High integrity and confidentiality in handling sensitive investigations.
- Outstanding analytical, detail orientation, project management, and communication skills.
- Bachelor's degree required.
Preferred Qualifications
- Experience within specialty pharmacy, biopharma, or life sciences data environments.
- Background advising on privacy and security in product or data platform contexts.
- Familiarity with HITRUST and comprehensive information security standards.
- Relevant certifications such as CHC, CHPC, or CIPP/US.
