Role Overview
J&M Group is seeking a skilled Data Engineer proficient in Python and SQL Server to construct and maintain ETL data pipelines and reporting capabilities for a leading Canadian bank based in downtown Toronto. The successful candidate will handle end-to-end data operations, from extraction and transformation to dashboard creation and stakeholder report generation using Tableau.
Key Responsibilities
- Design and build ETL pipelines with Python to extract data from multiple sources including APIs, Excel files, and databases.
- Manage and organize data storage in SQL Server databases effectively.
- Create and fine-tune stored procedures, views, functions, and SQL queries for optimal performance.
- Apply data transformation, validation, and enforce business rules within SQL Server environments.
- Develop and upkeep interactive Tableau dashboards and reports to visualize data insights.
- Maintain high standards of data quality, consistency, and pipeline efficiency.
- Work closely with business stakeholders to understand requirements and provide reporting solutions.
- Provide support for production deployments, troubleshoot issues, and implement continuous improvements.
Candidate Profile
- Extensive hands-on Python development particularly geared towards building ETL pipelines.
- Strong expertise with SQL Server encompassing stored procedures, functions, views, and query tuning.
- Experience using Tableau for dashboard and reporting development.
- Proficient in integrating data from REST APIs, Excel, CSV files, and other sources.
- Solid grasp of data transformation, validation processes, and analytics reporting.
- Effective communication skills with an ability to engage business stakeholders.
- Must pass a mandatory background check as part of eligibility.
Preferred Qualifications
- Background in banking or financial services data operations.
- Knowledge of data governance and frameworks for ensuring data quality.
- Experience managing production data pipelines in regulated environments.
Work Arrangement and Terms
- Hybrid work model: Three days onsite in downtown Toronto, two days remote.
- In-person client interview mandatory at downtown Toronto office.
- Contract duration of 12 months.
- Proficiency in English required.
