About the Role

Join Ventia as a Custody Officer to significantly contribute to safety and wellbeing by managing individuals in custody, ensuring a secure environment, and supporting the justice system's efficient functioning. This role involves working across diverse settings such as courts, prisoner transport, and secure medical escorts, providing varied and purposeful daily tasks.

Training and Compensation

• Receive a fully funded Certificate III in Correctional Practice with five weeks of paid training prior to deployment.
• Earn $27.35 per hour during training, increasing to $29.50 per hour afterward, and $30.93 per hour after completing the certificate and one year of service.
• Benefit from a fortnightly Western Australian State Government Pay Contribution Allowance of $256 (pre-tax).
• Guaranteed minimum hours under an Enterprise Agreement with premium penalty rates for extended hours, early mornings, late evenings, weekends, and overtime.
• Additional allowances including meal allowances for long shifts or overnight stays, on call allowance, officer in charge allowance, paid travel and regional secondment allowances, and parking reimbursements.

Responsibilities

• Monitor and safely transport people in custody.
• Ensure security during court sessions.
• Perform welfare checks maintaining duty of care.
• Handle challenging situations professionally and calmly.
• Maintain accurate documentation and reporting.
• Collaborate effectively within a close-knit operational team.

Candidate Requirements

• Commitment to full-time training from Monday to Friday, 8:30 AM to 4:30 PM.
• Dedication to complete the Certificate III over a 12-month period.
• Australian citizenship or permanent resident status.
• A respectful, resilient, and professional demeanor.
• Ability to successfully pass pre-employment medical, fitness, and background checks.
