About the Role
The Institute of Mental Health (IMH), a leading psychiatric hospital in Singapore, invites candidates to join the Medical Records Office as a Clinical Coder. This position supports the organization's mission to enhance healthy life years by ensuring accurate clinical coding that informs reporting, analytics, and strategic decision-making.
Key Duties and Responsibilities
- Examine inpatient and outpatient medical records to identify diagnoses, procedures, and clinical data following national and hospital coding standards.
- Apply precise ICD-10, SNOMED CT, and procedure codes in compliance with MOH guidelines, IMH policies, and international practices.
- Ensure the completeness, accuracy, and timeliness of coding to facilitate Casemix reporting, billing processes, and governmental submissions.
- Engage with clinicians to clarify documentation and resolve any coding uncertainties.
- Conduct audits and quality assurance checks on coding and participate in ongoing process improvements.
- Assist with data validation for submissions to the Ministry of Health and internal performance dashboards.
- Manage and monitor daily reports concerning uncoded cases and coder workloads.
- Contribute to educational initiatives by providing coding knowledge to healthcare professionals and staff stakeholders.
- Keep abreast of updates in coding standards, Ministry of Health circulars, and classification systems.
- Perform additional administrative or assigned tasks under the supervisor's guidance.
Essential Qualifications and Skills
- Holder of a Diploma or Degree in Health Information Management, Nursing, Allied Health, or a related discipline.
- Certification such as AHIMA or ICD-10, or equivalent clinical coding training, is preferred.
- Prior experience in clinical coding within a hospital context is advantageous.
- Solid knowledge of medical terminology, human anatomy and physiology, and clinical operations.
- Detail-oriented, analytical, and capable of working independently under deadlines.
- Effective communication skills to interface with clinicians for documentation clarification.
