Role Overview
This position in BHSI's Auckland Liability Claims team involves managing a diverse portfolio of liability claims including Professional Indemnity, Directors and Officers Liability, Employment Practices Liability, Cyber, Financial Institutions, and General Liability. Candidates will oversee claims from initial notification to final resolution, making informed coverage and reserving decisions and devising claim strategies. Effective liaison with customers, brokers, underwriting, and operations teams is integral for strengthening service and outcomes.
Responsibilities
- Manage liability claims end-to-end, ensuring adherence to BHSI Claims Service Standards.
- Timely and fair analysis of coverage with clear communications and escalation of policy or underwriting concerns as necessary.
- Evaluate claim exposure, set appropriate reserves, and keep stakeholders updated with detailed justification.
- Lead investigations and strategy development, coordinating with advisers, experts, and vendors for practical and commercial resolutions.
- Maintain transparent, professional relationships with customers and brokers.
- Ensure accurate claims documentation, share insights with internal teams, and contribute to process and system enhancements.
Required Skills and Attributes
- Strong technical expertise in claims judgment covering coverage, reserving, investigation, negotiation, and decision-making.

Qualifications and Experience
- Practical experience with liability claim lines such as Professional Indemnity, Directors and Officers, Employment Practices, Cyber, Financial Institutions, or General Liability.
- Desirable credentials include tertiary education, ANZIIF membership, legal qualifications, or other insurance-related certifications strengthening technical knowledge and claims proficiency.
