Role Overview
The primary duties involve responding promptly to both fire and medical emergencies, safely operating and maintaining fire equipment and facilities, performing various administrative tasks, and engaging in fire prevention initiatives. Additional responsibilities may include specialized roles such as EMT Coordinator, Plan Review Officer, or Hazardous Materials Coordinator.
Experience Expectations
Prior hands-on experience in firefighting and emergency medical services is preferred to enhance preparedness and response effectiveness.
Education Requirements
A high school diploma or an equivalent certificate is mandatory, while possession of an Associate's degree is considered advantageous.
Required Certifications and Skills
- Certification as Fire Fighter I and II, along with Hazardous Materials Operations.
- Possession of a valid Emergency Medical Paramedic License issued by the State of Michigan at the time of hiring.
- Valid Michigan driver's license free from serious misdemeanors, traffic violations, or felony convictions.
- Visual acuity of 20/20 or correctable to this level.
- Successful completion of a written exam and Candidate Physical Agility Testing (CPAT) administered by the Conference of Western Wayne and Schoolcraft College Fire Training Institutes.
Work Schedule
Work is organized in 24-hour shifts with the cycle: 1 day on, 2 days off, 1 day on, and 4 days off, including mandatory overtime when needed.
Compensation
The annual salary range spans from $55,533 to $83,281, reflecting experience and qualifications.

Applicants must complete the City of Farmington Hills online application and submit all relevant current certifications (fire and EMS). Additionally, the written exam and CPAT certificates from the Conference of Western Wayne and Schoolcraft College Fire Training Institutes must be provided before employment.
Candidates will be selected exclusively from qualified participants of the Conference of Western Wayne testing program.
