Overview
The Ministry for Primary Industries (MPI) invites applications for the role of Biosecurity Auditor Containment based in Christchurch. This permanent position is integral to maintaining and enhancing New Zealand's biosecurity system by auditing verification programmes at high-risk and complex containment and transitional facilities under the Biosecurity Act 1993.
Key Responsibilities
- Implement verification audits for higher-risk containment and transitional businesses to ensure compliance and safety.
- Carry out investigations including unannounced inspections where necessary to maintain audit integrity and biosecurity standards.
Candidate Profile
- Experience in laboratory or containment environments with knowledge of laboratory practices and operational workflows.
- Relevant scientific qualification is required.
- Auditing experience is advantageous but not mandatory.
- Self-motivated with capability to work well both independently and collaboratively.
- Resilient with a strong focus on delivering results.
- Excellent communication skills, both written and oral.
- Ability to listen actively and build professional relationships.
- Competent decision-making skills balancing information sufficiency with the need to take timely action on critical issues.
- Experienced in providing technical advice, coaching, and guidance regarding regulatory compliance and standards.
- Proven leadership in delivering assurance, audit, and compliance programs within complex operational settings.
- Experience leading investigations or assessments that address organizational risk and performance challenges.
- Must hold a full valid New Zealand driver's license.
About the Team and Organisation
Reporting to the Team Manager Containment and Audits, the successful candidate will join a specialized group of Biosecurity Auditors nationwide. MPI plays a crucial role in safeguarding New Zealand's primary industries by managing border controls, compliance activities, and responding to biosecurity threats.
