With over a century of expertise, RMI offers members legal support, industry advice, and discounted services, supporting all segments of automotive retail via specialist associations such as NFDA, NMDA, NAMA and others. Role Overview
The position of Automotive Technical Support Specialist is a full-time, on-site role located in Coventry. The specialist acts as the primary technical point of contact for IGA members across the retail motor industry. Responsibilities include addressing technical inquiries via phone and email, analyzing automotive issues, and proposing effective solutions centered on vehicle systems, repairs, diagnostic procedures, and compliance with industry standards.
Key Responsibilities
- Respond promptly to technical inquiries from members in the retail motor sector.
- Diagnose vehicle-related issues, including repairs and diagnostics.
- Stay informed on manufacturer bulletins, regulatory requirements, and best industry practices.
- Interpret and translate technical documents such as wiring diagrams and repair manuals into practical advice.
- Create and maintain records of case resolutions and contribute to the company's technical knowledge repository.
- Assist in developing technical bulletins and guidance documents for member distribution.
Required Qualifications and Skills
- Comprehensive automotive technical knowledge encompassing vehicle diagnostics and repair techniques.
- Proven experience providing technical support within dealerships, workshops, helplines, or related environments.
- Ability to interpret technical data and documentation to provide clear guidance.
- Strong verbal and written communication skills with an emphasis on simplifying complex technical matters.
- Competent in computer diagnostic equipment, office software, and customer query management systems.
- Relevant technical certifications in automotive engineering or maintenance such as NVQ, City & Guilds, IMI, or equivalent experience.
- Analytical mindset with excellent problem solving and attention to detail.
- Collaborative team player capable of managing workload efficiently in a fast-paced setting.
- Knowledgeable about UK automotive legislation, MOT standards, and current industry trends.
