About the Role
East Coast Metal Recycling invites a dedicated and dependable Assistant Operations Manager to join our expanding team in Currumbin Waters, QLD. This role is an active leadership position ideal for someone who enjoys hands-on involvement, including machinery operation, outdoor work, and guiding others by example. Collaborating closely with management, you will be integral to our daily business operations, with potential to assume broader leadership responsibilities. Your contribution will ensure safe, efficient, and professional company performance.
Key Responsibilities
- Support daily operational activities of the company.
- Offer leadership and operational guidance across departments as needed.
- Step into operational leadership during senior management absence.
- Safely and proficiently operate forklifts and other mobile plant equipment.
- Engage with customers to purchase scrap metal while delivering excellent service.
- Identify and grade various ferrous and non-ferrous metals accurately.
- Sort, process, and prepare scrap materials for transport and sale.
- Organise daily workflows to optimise safety, efficiency, and productivity.
- Assist with loading and unloading trucks and customer vehicles.
- Ensure adherence to company procedures, quality standards, and safety protocols.
- Support and mentor team members as needed.
- Propose initiatives to enhance business performance and operational efficiency.
Candidate Profile
- Experience in scrap metal, recycling, waste management, or similar industrial sectors with scrap metal identification skills is valued but not mandatory.
- Strong positive attitude, eagerness to learn, and willingness to undergo company training and adopt standards.
- Possession of a current forklift licence or willingness to obtain one (training support provided).
- Physically fit and comfortable working outdoors.
- Decisive and proactive with strong initiative.
- Honest, dependable, and focused on safety.
- Excellent communication and customer service abilities.
- Ability to stay calm and organised in a fast-paced environment.
- Ambition to build a long-term career and grow with the company.
