Overview

The U.S. Equal Employment Opportunity Commission (EEOC) is seeking a part-time Alternative Dispute Resolution (ADR) Mediator at the GS-0301-13 level. This position is located within the Office of Field Programs and will be based in one of the agency's District, Field, Area, or Local Offices in Washington, DC. The primary role involves conducting neutral mediations for employment discrimination disputes.

Key Responsibilities

  • Provide counseling to potential mediation participants and their representatives about mediation as an alternative to formal EEOC investigations or proceedings.
  • Conduct mediation sessions for employment disputes alleging violations of EEOC-enforced laws, addressing complex issues and sometimes employing innovative techniques.
  • Utilize diverse ADR methods to facilitate interactions and offer resolution options to parties to achieve successful dispute resolution.
  • Apply creativity and resourcefulness to gain participant cooperation or develop novel approaches when traditional methods encounter resistance.
  • Establish strong acceptability with all parties, particularly when dealing with sensitive matters or when participants resist compromise.
  • Draft, revise as needed, and finalize settlement agreements and related resolution documents; maintain detailed documentation of the mediation process in official files; and submit accurate and timely mediation reports.

Candidate Requirements

  • Must be a U.S. Citizen or National.
  • Males born after December 31, 1959, must be registered with Selective Service.
  • Eligible for federal employment subject to background checks and possible probation.
  • Minimum one year of specialized experience at the GS-12 federal level or equivalent, demonstrating independent mediation of Equal Employment Opportunity-related disputes. Experience should include effective settlement strategies, facilitating communication to resolve impasses, and guiding parties toward mutual agreement.
  • No specific education requirements for this position.

  • It is part of a bargaining unit represented by the National Council of EEOC Locals, No. 216.
  • Assignment to the duty station indicated in the announcement is mandatory.
