VP of Research, Machine Learning

About the Role

We are pioneering an advanced AI assistant that not only answers inquiries but also retains knowledge, reasons, plans, and performs intricate tasks over time. As the Vice President of Research in Machine Learning, you will spearhead the research strategy for the intelligence core of this initiative. This role transcends traditional academic research and focuses on designing an AI system capable of reasoning, self-evaluation, continual improvement, and reliable real-world functionality.

Key Responsibilities

• Design and lead research efforts on areas including context representation, long-term memory, reasoning and planning, agent orchestration, AI evaluation, and alignment and safety.
• Champion the integration of cutting-edge methodologies such as Retrieval-Augmented Training, Mixture of Experts (MoE), Distillation, Multi-Agent Systems, and Multimodal AI.
• Create and implement evaluation frameworks that measure critical factors like real-world utility, robustness, long-term behavior, accuracy, and safety.
• Collaborate closely with top-tier product and engineering executives to develop AI platforms intended for large-scale user interaction.

Candidate Profile

• Proven expertise in building machine learning systems ready for production, beyond just research-level prototypes.
• Strong technical insight into model behavior, reasoning processes, failure analysis, and strategic decision-making for long-term challenges.
• Builder mindset focused on delivering dependable intelligent systems that succeed under real-world conditions.
• Experience working with modern large language models (LLMs), agent-driven AI, retrieval technologies, evaluation methods, and model alignment strategies.
• Entrepreneurial spirit with high ownership mentality, thriving in ambiguous and impactful environments.
