Role Overview

The Transportation Modeller is responsible for analyzing travel patterns, forecasting future transportation demands, and creating models that optimize transit systems. This role requires the use of geographic information systems (GIS), travel demand modeling software, and statistical analysis tools to evaluate the impact of infrastructure projects on traffic flow and congestion. Key responsibilities include gathering and validating transport and demographic data, conducting demand forecasts, scenario evaluations, and sensitivity analyses to guide planning and investment decisions.

Additionally, the role involves preparing detailed technical documentation, visual data representations, and presentations for internal teams, clients, and governmental stakeholders. Collaboration with engineers, planners, financial analysts, and project managers is essential to incorporate modelling insights into feasibility studies, business cases, and project design. The role also supports ongoing development and refinement of modelling methods and standards at ESG.

Required Qualifications and Skills

• Strong quantitative and analytical capabilities, with experience in transport demand modeling and traffic analysis using software such as VISUM, SATURN, EMME, Cube, or similar tools.
• Proficient in data collection, validation, statistical analysis, and comfortable with spreadsheets and database management.
• Excellent communication skills to effectively present complex technical data through reports, charts, maps, and dashboards.
• Experience working within multidisciplinary teams alongside planners, engineers, and finance professionals on infrastructure and PPP projects.
• Bachelor’s or Master’s degree in Transportation Engineering, Civil Engineering, Urban Planning, Data Science, or a closely related quantitative discipline.
• Knowledge of GIS tools, programming or scripting languages such as Python, R, or MATLAB is desirable, along with a basic understanding of transport economics and project appraisal concepts.
• Proven ability to manage several projects simultaneously, meet deadlines, and uphold high professional and ethical standards.
