Trainee Management - Full Time Position at Sobeys

About the Role

This full-time position at Sobeys' Safeway grocery store located in Wetaskiwin, Alberta, is designed to support the implementation of grocery merchandising programs. The role focuses on assisting with managing product displays, inventory ordering, reducing out-of-stock situations, and maintaining the overall department presentation. Delivering exceptional customer service is a core element of this role. Sobeys is part of a large national retail food network with over 1,600 stores serving Canadian communities from coast to coast.

Key Responsibilities

• Deliver outstanding customer service consistently to shoppers.
• Create and manage grocery orders for the department.
• Handle loading and unloading of merchandise for sales floor replenishment.
• Execute price changes as required.
• Stock products effectively on shelves.
• Set up and maintain attractive product displays.
• Manage sections including Frozen Food, Dairy, and Bakery, covering loading, unloading, storage, rotation, and ordering.
• Organize merchandise flow schedules, optimize stock room layout, and manage damaged goods, spoiled items, and salvage processes.
• Retrieve shopping carts for customer convenience.
• Complete additional tasks as directed by the Store Manager.

Required Qualifications and Skills

• Ability to lift items up to 50 lbs.
• Strong interpersonal skills with a customer service focus.
• Effective verbal and written communication capabilities.
• Capacity to work independently with a high level of self-motivation.
• Thrive in a fast-paced retail environment.
• Willingness to work night shifts and flexible shifts (morning and evening).
• Supervisory experience is considered an advantage but not required.

Educational and Experience Requirements

• High school diploma or equivalent with minimum 3 years of retail experience if no post-secondary education is completed.
• For those with some post-secondary education, a combination of education and retail experience totaling at least 3 years is required, with a minimum of 6 months retail experience.
• College degree holders must have at least 6 months of retail experience.
• Experience specifically in grocery retail is preferred.
