Tongan Language Specialist

Position Overview

We are seeking a skilled Tongan Language Specialist to work under contract in a remote capacity. This role offers flexible work hours ranging from 10 to 40 hours per week, with a compensation rate between $45 and $95 per hour.

Key Responsibilities

• Convert Tongan audio and video recordings into detailed written transcripts with accurate timestamps.
• Evaluate and interpret the emotional tone and intent of speakers across different contexts.
• Ensure the transcriptions are grammatically correct, clear, and fluent in both Tongan and English.
• Explain complex or idiomatic Tongan terms and expressions to aid understanding by non-native speakers.
• Offer comprehensive feedback regarding language use, tone, and linguistic subtleties.
• Collaborate closely with project coordinators to meet deadlines and maintain quality standards.
• Assist in enhancing AI language models by contributing specialized linguistic knowledge.

Qualifications and Requirements

• Native or near-native proficiency in Tongan and English, both written and spoken.
• Proven professional experience in transcription and timestamping of audio or video materials.
• Exceptional skill in analyzing emotional content, tone, and speaker intent within language.
• Thorough understanding of Tongan grammar, vocabulary, idiomatic expressions, and cultural nuances.
• Relevant background in linguistics, translation, localization, or similar language-related fields is highly preferred.
• Capability to perform detailed linguistic analyses on complex tasks with well-structured reporting.
