Role Overview

We are searching for a Technical Writer responsible for crafting and managing the documentation for Nabu Casa's Hardware and Cloud offerings. This role involves high responsibility and impact, as you will be the main contributor ensuring our products are well documented for a global user and developer community. Tasks range from creating beginner-friendly setup guides to detailed API and integration documentation. Collaboration with engineering teams to translate complex technical topics into clear, useful content is essential to minimize support queries.

Key Responsibilities

• Manage end-to-end documentation for Nabu Casa Hardware and Cloud, ensuring all content is accurate, current, and easy to find
• Coordinate documentation efforts in alignment with product cycles for new features, integrations, and releases
• Collaborate closely with engineers to research and verify technical details, easing the documentation workload on development teams
• Continuously review and enhance existing documentation by identifying outdated information, addressing gaps, and refining organization and tone
• Establish and uphold documentation standards, style guides, and templates to maintain quality and consistency, especially for community contributions
• Respond to user and internal feedback on documentation, prioritizing changes that improve user experience
• Support developer experience by maintaining API guides, integration documentation, and contributor resources for the Open Home Foundation community and partners
• Monitor documentation quality indicators such as support tickets and community feedback, reporting regularly

Required Qualifications

• Strong technical writing expertise demonstrated through a portfolio focused on developer or product documentation
• Ability to comprehend code including Python, YAML, and REST APIs well enough to produce accurate technical documents independently
• Knowledge of smart home hardware and electronics, capable of independently troubleshooting basic issues
• Experience using docs-as-code workflows involving Git, Markdown, and static site generators like MkDocs or Docusaurus
• Proactive self-starter who identifies documentation needs without direction
• Skilled in managing relationships with engineers to efficiently extract technical information

Preferred Additional Skills

• Familiarity with Home Assistant or similar open-source/self-hosted software platforms
• Experience maintaining documentation for community-driven projects with external contributions
• Methodical approach to auditing large documentation sets and prioritizing improvements
• Comfortable working asynchronously in a remote-first, distributed team environment

Employment Details and Benefits

This full-time remote role requires 40 hours per week with no fixed working hours, though some daily overlap with teammates is expected. You will directly report to the VP Commercial. Compensation target aims at the 75th percentile for your role and location. Sample annual salaries for key countries include:

• Greece: 45,700 - 56,100 EUR
• Hungary: 16,100,000 - 20,250,000 HUF
• Ireland: 52,800 - 70,500 EUR
• Italy: 54,000 - 64,400 EUR
• Poland: 150,000 - 215,000 PLN
• Portugal: 47,900 - 61,200 EUR
• Romania: 215,000 - 275,000 RON
• Spain: 50,500 - 63,600 EUR
• UK: 57,100 - 73,800 GBP

Salaries may be adjusted based on experience and qualifications. Other compensation details will be discussed during hiring.
