Job description

Role Overview

We are inviting applications for a Streetworks Technician position within the Highways Technical Services Section's Streetworks team. The chosen candidate will either already possess Streetworks Accreditation or agree to gain it within 12 months of joining, and must have familiarity with the New Roads and Streetworks Act.

Key Duties

The role involves delivering efficient, responsive, and high-quality Streetworks Services, ensuring the Authority meets its obligations under the New Roads and Streetworks Act. Responsibilities include managing incoming works applications from statutory undertakers and internal Council departments, and supporting the Streetworks Engineer with coordinating formal notices from statutory undertakers and private parties.

Location and Working Conditions

This is a permanent full-time post based at the Council's newly built headquarters in central Pontypridd, offering convenient town centre amenities, nearby parking, and excellent public transport connections to Cardiff and the Valleys. A hybrid working model is implemented, allowing staff to divide their time between home and office work.

Working Hours and Leave

The position requires working 37 hours per week within a flexible working hours scheme. Annual leave is 26 days, increasing to 31 days after five years of service, plus eight public holidays.

Benefits

Employees can join the Local Government Pension Scheme with employer contributions. Additional benefits include access to leisure center discounts via the 'Leisure for Life' membership, lifestyle savings and salary sacrifice schemes (such as Cycle2Work and green cars), and comprehensive health and financial wellbeing programs through the Vivup staff benefits provider.

Diversity and Inclusion

The Council prioritizes safeguarding children and vulnerable adults and promotes workforce diversity without discrimination based on age, sex, race, disability, sexual orientation, gender identity, religion or belief, or pregnancy and maternity. Staff networks are available supporting Allies, Disability and Carers, and LGBTQ+ employees.

Welsh Language and Interview Policies

Applications submitted in Welsh will receive equal consideration to English. A guaranteed interview scheme exists for candidates proficient in Welsh at Level 3 or higher who meet essential job criteria and opt to participate. Similarly, veterans, service leavers, reservists, and care-experienced individuals who meet essential criteria are offered guaranteed interview opportunities.
