Overview
We are seeking a Software Operations Engineer to support a major smart warehouse initiative based in Saudi Arabia. This role involves comprehensive software operations and maintenance (O&M) across multiple integrated systems, collaborating closely with hardware teams and vendors to ensure continuous, reliable operations.
Key Accountabilities
- Oversee daily maintenance and monitoring of Lenovo enterprise systems, proprietary industrial gateways, warehouse execution/control systems (WES/WCS), and AGV dispatch software.
- Coordinate with OEM technical teams to troubleshoot interface disruptions, data transmission failures, task dispatch errors, and process blockages.
- Facilitate system upgrades, perform on-site validations, and gather user inputs for product enhancement.
- Work alongside network and hardware engineers to identify and resolve communication issues caused by servers, switches, networks, or automation equipment.
- Analyze issues spanning software logic, data inconsistencies, network connectivity, and hardware faults; take ownership for resolution and document findings.
- Compile incident analysis reports for automation equipment failures and refine troubleshooting protocols.
- Support server and software infrastructure maintenance through routine Windows/Linux health checks, log analysis, and verifying data backups with infrastructure teams.
- Monitor high-availability systems; manage software-related crashes and service startup failures.
- Ensure adherence to scheduled backups and integrity checks for all warehouse systems and maintain required logs for compliance.
- Provide end-user support by resolving software issues on warehouse PCs, PDAs, scanning devices, and production line equipment.
- Manage terminal software deployment, permissions, and integrate new devices into the network.
- Maintain and update documentation including system interfaces, software versions, troubleshooting logs, SOPs, topology diagrams, and configuration mappings.
- Offer 7 days a week, 8 hours per day on-site standby for production software failure emergencies, ensuring swift recovery and escalation to Level-2 support in China when necessary.
- Collaborate actively with network and hardware teams as well as third-party vendors, standardizing O&M processes and maintaining regular coordination meetings.
Qualifications
- Bachelor’s degree or higher in Computer Science, Software Engineering, Logistics Automation, Mechatronics, Network Engineering, or related disciplines.
- Between 1 and 3 years of experience in WMS, WCS, WES, AGV dispatching, or industrial gateway system implementation or on-site operations and maintenance.
- Exposure to automated production lines or international project deployments is advantageous.
- Fundamental knowledge of servers, networking, and automation hardware preferred.
Technical Expertise
- Competent in interpreting interface logs and message payloads to independently troubleshoot cross-system data exchange and API-related errors.
- Strong understanding of WES, WCS, and AGV business processes with ability to handle routine failures autonomously.
- Hands-on familiarity with Windows and Linux environments including system log examination, service monitoring, and performance evaluation.
- Knowledgeable about high-availability concepts and backup strategies.
- Basic capability to support network and automation hardware troubleshooting collaboratively.
- Skills in resolving issues with warehouse PC/PDA terminals and deploying terminal software are desirable.
- English proficiency sufficient for technical documentation interpretation and coordination with overseas partners.
Soft Skills & Adaptability
- Willingness to relocate for a long-term on-site position in Saudi Arabia, adaptable to emergency response schedules.
- Strong analytical and problem-solving skills, effective at cross-vendor communication and coordination.
- Quick adaptability and eagerness to master complex, multi-system environments.
- Highly detail-focused, disciplined in documentation, resilient under pressure, and attentive to industrial safety standards.
Benefits of the Role
- Participation in a prestigious global smart warehouse project offering hands-on experience with cutting-edge automation and IT systems integration.
- Robust support from a highly experienced Level-2 software operations team based in China, with structured onboarding and ongoing mentorship.
- Opportunities for career development either as a local Digital Technology and IT lead or as a specialist in software operations/products back in China.
- Comprehensive skill enhancement encompassing software operations, hardware knowledge, and networking to build a versatile profile for future smart manufacturing leadership roles.
