About Oranga Tamariki—Ministry for Children
Oranga Tamariki is dedicated to placing tamariki (children) and rangatahi (youth) at the center of all efforts, striving to make New Zealand the best environment for children’s wellbeing. Role Overview
This permanent position located at the Papakura site seeks passionate individuals with relevant experience and knowledge to positively impact the lives of children and families. The role involves working collaboratively with a dedicated team passionate about ensuring safety and strength for tamariki and rangatahi.
- Actively listen to and support tamariki, rangatahi, and their whānau to facilitate positive change
- Engage effectively with diverse cultural groups and backgrounds
- Conduct comprehensive assessments of children, youth, and their families
- Organize and lead hui focused on empowering whānau to nurture and care for their children and youth
- Participate in planning and delivering interventions aimed at maintaining children and youth within their family environments
- Collaborate with community partners, NGOs, and government agencies
- Advocate for tamariki and rangatahi to ensure access to necessary support and resources for their full potential
Candidate Requirements
- Full, clean, and current New Zealand driver’s license
- Registration and current practicing certificate with New Zealand's Social Work Registration Board (SWRB)
- A recognized social work qualification by the SWRB
- Recent and relevant experience in a social work role within Oranga Tamariki or a New Zealand NGO
- Empathy, patience, and the ability to understand and look beyond individual difficulties
- Experience in the child protection sector in New Zealand is preferred
- Capability to develop and analyse social work and related plans such as financial plans
- Sound judgment and organizational skills
- Ability to manage risks and make difficult decisions
