Senior Structural Engineer

Role Overview

At H&P, our team is our most valuable asset. As part of the Middle East Engineering Support team, the Senior Structural Engineer will collaborate closely with regional and operational management to satisfy the engineering requirements for each Middle Eastern country of company operations. Coordination with fellow engineers, drafting, and field inspection teams is essential to fulfill project tasks. Interaction with other company departments—including Marketing, Bids & Contracts, and Maintenance & Overhaul—is expected. The engineer will deliver detailed drawings, provide expert advice, and respond to engineering inquiries from field districts and personnel.

The role focuses on drilling rig-specific structural design assignments, large-scale project management, critical incident advisory, and development or resolution of Category III & IV inspections. Additionally, this position involves extensive project management responsibilities in partnership with the Houston Assembly Facility. As a senior team member, mentoring junior engineers and offering cross-departmental support within H&P's engineering divisions will be required. The engineer must demonstrate independence in managing high-level projects and exhibit leadership qualities with high standards for deliverables.

Key Responsibilities

• Manage construction projects by liaising with local fabricators and the Houston assembly facility.
• Design new structural elements and assess existing units for modifications.
• Establish and maintain productive working relationships with primary fabrication suppliers.
• Issue "Certificates of Compliance" for various engineering designs.
• Collaborate with international marketing teams to prepare proposals, estimates, and project schedules.
• Compile technical reports based on design analyses.
• Review and verify design packages prepared by colleagues.
• Prepare standardized technical correspondence regarding rig function and equipment design for client communications.
• Provide technical expertise for structural repairs, on-site upgrades, and Category III & IV inspections.
• Mentor junior engineers and assist across engineering teams.
• Conduct audits and equipment reviews in the field.
• Travel onsite to rigs to support upgrades and inspections including occasional overnight stays.

Qualifications and Requirements

• Bachelor’s degree in Civil or Structural Engineering or equivalent from an accredited university.
• Certification from the Saudi Council of Engineers.
• At least 8 years’ experience in structural design, with ability to produce formal design reports, perform hand calculations, and utilize CAD for analysis.
• Experience specifically with drilling rig design and structural steel fabrication.
• Possession of a Professional Engineer (PE) license.
• In-depth knowledge of AISC design standards, API specifications and recommended practices.
• Familiarity with hydraulic systems.
• Strong project leadership skills and ability to work autonomously.
• Proficiency with Microsoft Office and CAD software.
• Demonstrated team-oriented mindset combined with humility, eagerness, and intellect.
• Excellent communication and organizational skills.
• Ability to effectively coordinate among office, workshop, and field staff.
• Willingness to travel both within and outside the country to fabrication facilities, assembly plants, and rig sites.

Additional Information

The role demands occasional on-site presence with overnight stays when supporting field operations. Mentorship and high-quality output standards are central to success in this position. The candidate is expected to be a leader within the engineering group, promoting effective cooperation across different company groups.
