About the role
This position is for a Senior Project Manager – Capital Delivery who will guide complex infrastructure work through the design stage and into execution planning, including procurement. The role is based in the Newmarket office and reports to the Manager – Design Delivery.
You will be accountable for delivering important capital projects safely, efficiently, and within budget, helping build a more sustainable and resilient water network for Auckland.
Key duties
- Take ownership of major projects from start to finish during the design phase.
- Control scope, schedule, budget, risk, and quality across each project.
- Develop effective working relationships with internal teams, consultants, contractors, and external stakeholders.
- Lead procurement, tendering, and contract administration activities.
- Promote best practice in health, safety, and environmental management at every stage.
- Track project progress and make sure milestones and financial goals stay on target.
- Prepare regular, clear updates on status, risks, and delivery outcomes.
- Support ongoing improvement, sustainability, and innovation in project delivery.
What we are looking for
We are seeking a seasoned project professional who can manage complex infrastructure work and unite diverse groups around a common goal.
- At least 15 years of experience in project management, engineering, or construction.
- A relevant tertiary qualification in engineering, construction, planning, environmental studies, or a similar discipline.
- Strong commercial capability, including budgeting, forecasting, and contract management.
- Proven ability to lead multidisciplinary teams and coordinate external delivery partners.
- A strong focus on health, safety, and sustainability.
- Excellent communication skills with the ability to influence a wide range of stakeholders.
- A proactive, resilient, and practical approach to problem-solving.
- Professional memberships such as Engineering NZ, PMP, or PRINCE2 would be an advantage.
