Senior Manager - Data Science

About the Opportunity

Starbucks invites experienced data science leaders to join as a Senior Manager based in Nashville, TN. Key Responsibilities

• Lead and mentor a team to achieve high performance by fostering a culture of collaboration, execution excellence, and ongoing professional growth.
• Oversee the complete lifecycle of data science projects, involving problem definition, data curation, model development, evaluation, and integrating resulting insights or machine learning models into operational processes.
• Establish and propagate best practices for coding standards, versioning, documentation, data security, and analytic methodologies to ensure consistency and alignment across business units, removing barriers to project success.

Required Qualifications

• Bachelor’s degree or equivalent in a relevant discipline.
• 5 to 7+ years of experience in data science, analytics, or allied fields.
• Proficient in Python or R, SQL, and managing relational databases.
• Familiarity with machine learning and statistical approaches including regression, decision trees, classification, causal inference, and clustering.
• Experience working with cloud platforms such as Azure or AWS for data and analytics workflows.
• Demonstrated capability in managing and coaching teams, with strong communication and attention to detail.

Preferred Credentials

• Master’s degree in quantitative disciplines like Statistics, Mathematics, Computer Science, Engineering, Economics, Psychology, or related fields, or similar advanced experience.
• Over eight years of leadership experience managing small teams (approximately 2 to 4 members) and nurturing technical talent.
• Hands-on expertise in production machine learning practices including shared codebases, package development, repository management, and adhering to software development lifecycle standards.
• Experience with modern distributed computing platforms (for instance, Databricks) and hyperparameter tuning, model monitoring, and performance evaluation.

Additional Information

Compensation will consider job knowledge, experience, geographical location, and internal equity, typically not starting at the top range for roles. This position requires onsite presence at least four days weekly to cultivate teamwork and engagement.
