Senior Lighting Designer (Part-Time)

About the Role

KPK Lighting Design, a rapidly expanding and award-winning firm headquartered in Houston, Texas, is seeking a seasoned Senior Lighting Designer to contribute remotely. This part-time role involves working on diverse projects such as luxury multifamily towers, corporate interiors, mixed-use developments, hospitality venues, retail spaces, restaurants, and residential properties.

Key Responsibilities

• Engage comprehensively in all stages of lighting design, from initial schematic plans to construction administration.
• Lead lighting design projects collaboratively with leadership, ensuring adherence to company standards and design direction.
• Develop detailed lighting fixture schedules using Excel, accompanied by coordinated cut-sheet packages reflecting design guidelines.
• Supervise the execution of schedules and lighting control intents within Revit, following company BIM protocols.
• Verify and support the conversion of redlines into AutoCAD or Revit formats to meet deadlines, primarily working with Revit documentation.
• Participate in weekly virtual team meetings for deadline and task coordination using Asana.
• Represent the firm in virtual or in-person client meetings to address project requirements efficiently.
• Contribute actively to internal design sessions and reviews including redline assessments.
• Collaborate with sales representatives to prepare cost estimates and finalize schedules.
• Oversee projects from conceptual design through construction, managing RFIs, submittals, correspondence, and communications promptly.
• Travel to project sites as necessary for initial walkthroughs, final aiming, and dimming commissioning visits.
• Work closely with electricians to guarantee precision and efficiency in lighting aiming within designated timeframes.
• Maintain detailed on-site documentation including site notes, punch lists, and final dimming levels as part of project completion procedures.

Qualifications and Skills

• Between five and ten years of experience working in an independent architectural lighting design firm, with hands-on expertise in interior, exterior, and landscape lighting environments.
• Proven ability to create lighting fixture schedules, lighting control narratives, and riser diagrams.
• Advanced knowledge of luminaire behavior and competence in photometric calculations.
• Experience supporting construction-phase tasks, such as lighting aiming and dimming during commissioning processes.
• Strong teamwork ethic, willing to assist across projects to meet tight deadlines.
• Highly organized, detail-oriented, and self-driven, with a learning mindset.
• Effective time management capable of handling multiple simultaneous projects.
• Proficient in AutoCAD, Revit, AGi32, Adobe InDesign, Microsoft Office Suite, and Bluebeam Revu software.
