Senior Data Engineering Expert

About the Role

We are looking for a seasoned Senior Data Engineering Expert well-versed in the Airline IT sector to spearhead the architecture, development, modernization, and governance of enterprise-scale data platforms along with data integration ecosystems. This position demands comprehensive knowledge of constructing and managing both batch and real-time data pipelines, large ETL frameworks, cloud-native data platforms, and enterprise data management systems, addressing airline operational, customer, commercial analytic, and reporting needs.

Key Responsibilities

• Design and enforce organization-wide data architecture strategies to support commercial, digital, customer, and operational business functions.
• Create highly scalable, fault-tolerant, and secure data platforms facilitating analytics, reporting, machine learning, and operational decision-making.
• Lead transformation initiatives migrating legacy data systems toward cloud-native Lakehouse architectures and extensive data ecosystems.
• Define and uphold data engineering standards, architectural principles, governance policies, and industry best practices enterprise-wide.
• Develop scalable enterprise data architectures targeted at Airline Commercial and Digital units such as Reservations and Passenger Service Systems, Revenue Management, Loyalty Programs, CRM, Customer Data Platforms, digital engagement, analytics, and regulatory reporting.
• Engineer robust data ingestion, transformation, and exposure layers for batch and streaming workloads.
• Build reusable metadata-driven ETL/ELT frameworks capable of processing large-scale transactional, operational, and customer data sets.
• Implement integration patterns using APIs, event-driven systems, messaging infrastructures, and hybrid connectivity models.
• Ensure data quality through control mechanisms, reconciliation, lineage, metadata management, and observability solutions.
• Automate deployment pipelines, orchestration, monitoring, recovery workflows, and operational supports.
• Design real-time streaming platforms enabling near real-time operational monitoring, customer interaction, disruption management, and decision support.
• Setup and govern enterprise Master Data Management strategies encompassing key master data domains like customers, flights, and enterprise references.
• Drive data stewardship programs, golden record maintenance, metadata governance, and comprehensive data quality initiatives.
• Maintain compliance with privacy, security, and regulatory mandates aligned with secure enterprise data governance.
• Lead and mentor data engineering and architecture teams, promoting a high standard of engineering excellence.
• Collaborate extensively with stakeholders across business, product, architecture, and executive levels to deliver strategic cloud modernization and enterprise platform programs.

Required Qualifications & Expertise

• Bachelor’s or Master’s degree in Computer Science, Information Technology, Engineering, or related fields.
• Substantial experience in data engineering, architecture, or enterprise data platform roles.
• Proven expertise delivering enterprise-grade data platforms in complex, integrated environments, ideally within airline, aviation, travel, or transport sectors.
• Strong background in cloud-native data architectures leveraging Microsoft Azure and Databricks Lakehouse technology.
• Hands-on skills building scalable Apache Spark (Scala), Spark SQL, Delta Lake data engineering solutions for batch and streaming.
• Experience developing high-performance, reusable ETL frameworks and large-scale data pipelines encompassing operational, commercial, and customer data.
• Deep understanding of enterprise data integration patterns, including API integrations, event-driven design, messaging technologies, and hybrid cloud connectivity.
• Expertise in enterprise data warehousing, data modeling, database design, SQL performance tuning, and managing large structured/semi-structured data sets.
• Proven track record in Master Data Management, metadata governance, data stewardship, golden record management, and governance.
• Strong knowledge in data quality, lineage, observability, security, privacy, and compliance within enterprise data contexts.
• Leadership experience in defining data architecture standards, managing engineering teams, mentoring, and driving cloud transformation.

Preferred Qualifications

• Familiarity with airline-specific systems such as Passenger Service Systems, Revenue Management, Loyalty platforms, CRM, and Digital Commerce.
• Experience supporting AI, machine learning, advanced analytics, and personalization efforts powered by modern data platforms.
• Exposure to data mesh, data fabric, or domain-centric data architecture methodologies.
• Background in large-scale enterprise digital transformation programs.
• Relevant certifications in Microsoft Azure, Databricks, Data Engineering, Cloud Architecture, or Enterprise Data Management.
