At Amazon's Workforce Intelligence powered by Scientific Engineering (WISE), success depends on effectively understanding and optimizing our workforce. WISE provides an enterprise-wide foundation for workforce planning, enabling precise alignment of workforce composition, organizational structure, and geographic presence to meet long-term organizational goals cost-effectively.
We are seeking a Senior Applied Scientist specialized in machine learning and AI to contribute to advanced optimization and large language model (LLM) initiatives. You will collaborate closely with cross-functional teams—including software engineers, machine learning engineers, data engineers, scientists, TPMs, product managers, and senior leadership—to develop cutting-edge solutions. This role requires a passion for innovation with strong product ownership and enjoyment of impactful work.
Key Responsibilities
- Lead engineering efforts to ensure clear and timely achievement of technical milestones, including advising on design and technology trade-offs.
- Effectively manage competing priorities and dependencies from various teams.
- Identify, define, and implement process improvements to enhance delivery and operational productivity.
- Engage with and influence stakeholders by balancing business requirements and technical constraints, providing clarity in uncertain conditions.
- Maintain operational excellence by monitoring key metrics and program health, resolving blockers promptly, and handling escalations.
Candidate Qualifications
- Minimum 3 years of machine learning model development experience applied to business contexts.
- PhD or Master's degree plus at least 6 years of applied research experience.
- Proficient programming skills in languages such as Java, C++, or Python.
- Solid understanding and experience with neural networks, deep learning, and machine learning methodologies.
Preferred Skills
- Familiarity with modeling frameworks and libraries, including R, scikit-learn, Spark MLLib, MxNet, TensorFlow, NumPy, and SciPy.
- Experience working with large-scale distributed computing platforms such as Hadoop and Apache Spark.
