Safety Business Partner

About the Role

Hume City Council, a rapidly growing and culturally diverse local government in Australia, seeks a Safety Business Partner to join its established Safety Team. This permanent full-time position, based in Broadmeadows, Victoria, offers a salary of $110506 per annum plus superannuation. The role supports staff at all organizational levels by providing safety advice, expertise, and documentation to create a safe work environment and foster a strong safety culture.

Key Responsibilities

• Offer safety guidance and practical support to assigned business units across Council to maintain effective safety practices.
• Manage portfolio areas such as Psychosocial Health and Safety, Occupational Violence and Aggression, Emergency Management, Manual Handling, Incident Investigation, High Risk Work, Dangerous Goods and Hazardous Substances, and Slips/Trips/Falls.
• Analyze data and prepare detailed reports on safety performance and risk trends for management and Council, including quarterly safety and risk review reports.
• Design and deliver targeted training programs to educate staff on risk management and workplace safety relevant to the assigned business areas and safety portfolio.
• Provide guidance and feedback to Safety Advisors, particularly concerning incident investigations.
• Engage collaboratively with stakeholders to identify safety and wellbeing gaps and implement corrective actions proactively.

Required Qualifications and Experience

• Tertiary qualification in Occupational Health and Safety, Allied Health, or equivalent substantial experience in safety within complex, multi-disciplinary environments.
• Proven leadership in managing strategic safety initiatives with strong influencing and collaborative capabilities.
• Comprehensive knowledge of contemporary safety management systems and compliance with work health and safety regulations.
• Skill in translating legislation and complex technical data into practical solutions for varied high-risk environments.
• Understanding of safety dynamics in large local government settings delivering diverse community services.
• Current and valid driver's licence.

Candidate Attributes

The ideal candidate will have strong judgment, curiosity, practical problem-solving skills, and the ability to forge trusted relationships across a multifaceted organization. Qualifications in safety, risk, allied health, human factors, psychology, or organizational development are highly regarded but not mandatory with relevant experience.
