About the Role

Greater Wellington is seeking two energetic and innovative Resource Advisors to enhance our Environmental Regulation team. One of these roles may be filled at a Senior level depending on experience. These full-time positions are based in our contemporary office in Masterton, joining a team passionate about delivering exceptional work for our unique region.

Key Responsibilities

  • Processing applications for resource consents under the Resource Management Act 1991 (RMA).
  • Providing expert advice and guidance on natural resource management issues.
  • Conducting compliance inspections and ongoing monitoring activities.
  • Auditing self-monitoring data and reports submitted by stakeholders.
  • Responding to environmental incidents through investigation and potential enforcement actions.
  • Collaborating effectively with landowners, industry representatives, iwi, community groups, and other stakeholders.

Candidate Requirements

  • Proven practical experience working within the RMA framework and in planning disciplines.
  • Experience may include roles with local or central government, consulting firms, community, iwi, or volunteer organizations.
  • A collaborative and solutions-oriented work style, with a willingness to mentor and share expertise.
  • Strong interpersonal, engagement, and relationship-building abilities.
  • Resilience and adaptability to work under conditions of ambiguity and change.
  • Capability to manage multiple projects effectively, prioritizing tasks and proactively managing stakeholder expectations.
  • Analytical skills to critically assess reports, plans, and technical documents, suggesting improvements when applicable.
  • Focus on achieving positive outcomes throughout the RMA process.
  • Understanding of strategies to influence behavior change towards better environmental practices.
  • A history of reliably delivering results aligned with customer needs.
  • For the Senior role: at least 5 years of regional consenting and compliance experience within local government or a regulatory setting, combined with leadership, mentoring, and advanced communication skills.

The positions offer remuneration within the following ranges (inclusive of benefits): Resource Advisor $77,666 to $116,500 (midpoint $97,083), Senior Resource Advisor $97,325 to $145,987 (midpoint $121,656), with starting salary dependent on experience and skills.
