Overview
The Repair Machine Champion (RMC) plays a pivotal role in managing and executing machine shop repairs for components that are damaged, nonconforming, or require rework. This position offers comprehensive ownership over the technical aspects, supplier coordination, inspection criteria, documentation, and delivery processes to guarantee repairs are conducted safely, compliantly, and timely. The aim is to enhance repair turnaround times, minimize reliance on original equipment manufacturers (OEMs), and facilitate cost-efficient asset recovery to support ongoing operations and generate savings.
Responsibilities
- Lead and oversee the complete repair cycle for damaged and nonconforming components ensuring they meet operational demands.
- Analyze engineering drawings, technical specs, conditions of components, and prior repair data to establish repair scopes, appropriate methods, limits, and acceptance standards.
- Serve as the primary contact with machine shop suppliers to communicate expectations, requirements, priorities, inspections, and delivery schedules.
- Collaborate with teams across Reliability & Maintenance, Engineering, Quality Control, Operations, and Supply Chain to ensure coordinated repair execution, documentation, logistics, and system records.
- Confirm all repaired parts undergo dimensional, visual, and non-destructive examinations as needed to validate compliance with repair scope.
- Maintain detailed trackers for repairs, monitor progress, identify potential delays or risks, and report status to relevant stakeholders and leadership.
- Assist logistics in coordinating transport of tools, components, and repaired units to support operational needs.
- Identify trends in failure, supplier performance issues, and improvement opportunities to boost repair quality, efficiency, and reduce costs.
- Work with global teams to align repair data, cost implications, and harmonize with the Global Repair Catalog standards.
- Share best practices and collaborate with fellow Repair Machine Champions to enhance repair capabilities.
Skills & Expertise
- In-depth technical knowledge of repair evaluations, defining repair scopes, and machine shop processes.
- Experience with machining techniques such as turning, grinding, milling, welding, cladding, and restoring surfaces.
- Ability to accurately interpret engineering drawings, material specs, dimensional requirements, and quality acceptance criteria.
- Familiarity with quality control systems, nonconformance report (NCR) management, inspection planning, and release processes.
- Proven supplier management abilities including negotiation, persistent follow-up, and cross-functional coordination.
- Strong focus on quality assurance, compliance standards, and precise documentation with traceability.
- Capability to juggle multiple priorities in a dynamic environment, demonstrating ownership and escalation discipline.
- Excellent problem-solving and decision-making aptitude with prompt risk identification and escalation.
- Effective communication skills, both written and verbal, with stakeholders across all organizational levels.
- Proficiency with Microsoft Office tools and familiarity with ERP, NCR software, and repair tracking systems.
Qualifications
- Bachelor’s degree in Mechanical Engineering or a related field.
- Between 5 to 8 years’ experience in repair management, manufacturing, machine shop operations, reliability & maintenance, quality assurance, or technical support focused on drilling tools or oilfield equipment.
- Preferred experience in drilling services, repair & maintenance, quality, manufacturing, or supplier repair supervision.
- Knowledgeable in inspection methodologies such as dimensional checks, visual inspections, and non-destructive evaluation, plus repair validation processes.
- Experience in supplier qualification, performance oversight, audit conduction, and development of repair capabilities is advantageous.
- Awareness of relevant ISO, API, engineering standards, and health, safety, and environmental protocols related to repairs and manufacturing.
