About the role
Absa Group is seeking a Relationship Manager to oversee and grow a portfolio of corporate clients within Global Development Organizations. The role focuses on building durable client partnerships, delivering dependable service, and supporting faster credit decisions while maintaining strong operational quality.
The position is aimed at improving risk-adjusted portfolio returns and expanding the corporate bank’s liability base. It also involves driving new business as well as deepening relationships with existing clients to increase wallet share.
Key responsibilities
The role is split across origination, product and business management, risk and governance, and people management.
- Source prospects, assess them against the bank’s appetite, and progress suitable opportunities.
- Prepare and present strong sales pitches, review term sheets before they are shared with clients, and maintain an active sales pipeline in Sales Force.
- Track client calls and discussions, support onboarding completion, and coordinate with ARMs to ensure documentation and related processes are finished accurately.
- Maintain regular senior-level client contact for account management and deal discussions.
- Identify the most appropriate products for customer needs and sell them quickly in both reactive and proactive situations.
- Monitor client profitability closely to avoid revenue leakage and remain accountable for the quality of the assigned portfolio.
- Build and maintain a target list of potential business opportunities and use relationship planning tools to identify high-value customers.
- Collect the information needed for credit applications and work with Corporate Credit Managers and Associate Relationship Managers to prepare proposals.
- Maintain portfolio quality by following risk triggers, policies, and broader risk management guidelines.
- Review excess and overdue accounts, take action to regularise them, and support approvals where needed.
- Check that facility documentation is complete and enforce discipline across the portfolio.
- Work with product partners to increase usage of complex structures and help ensure strong utilisation of working capital facilities.
- Operate in full compliance with all regulatory expectations, internal policies, and the Enterprise-Wide Risk Management Framework.
- Coordinate with the CDD team to make sure KYC requirements are properly completed.
- Oversee the quality and speed of credit proposals and support quicker turnaround by handling credit queries with the CCM.
- Coach and support the Assistant Relationship Manager and Corporate Service Assistants in their day-to-day work.
Education and experience
- A bachelor’s degree in Business Administration, Sales & Marketing, International Business, or a similar field.
- Relevant experience in a comparable role and business environment.
- ACIB qualification or an equivalent professional credential.
