Spirair is a venture capital-supported medical device startup founded by two Stanford Biodesign and Innovation fellows. Collaborating with leading ENT specialists and industry experts, Spirair develops impactful and minimally invasive treatment solutions.
Role Overview
We are seeking an R&D Engineer to lead the design, development, and manufacturability of medical products while adhering to the Company's Quality Manual. The individual will ensure products satisfy customer and manufacturing requirements, collaborate across departments for process development, and engage directly with suppliers and physicians as needed. This role offers a unique chance to contribute during a pivotal growth phase of the startup.
Key Responsibilities
- Design and implement innovative methods, materials, machinery, processes, or products.
- Guide new product concepts from initial design through market launch.
- Ensure compliance with design controls, manage development timelines, and coordinate cross-functional teams for timely commercialization.
- Create test and assembly fixtures in collaboration with engineering and manufacturing teams.
- Conduct design validation including generating and reviewing test protocols; modify designs to meet specific market needs.
- Participate in animal and cadaver feasibility studies to verify intended functionality.
- Carry out verification testing to confirm devices meet detailed design inputs.
- Develop tools associated with marketed devices when necessary.
- Maintain thorough documentation at all stages of research and development.
- Collaborate with manufacturing/production teams to ensure products are manufacturable.
- Provide technical support for regulatory, clinical, or sales processes, as required.
- Engage in idea generation activities including brainstorming and intellectual property development.
Preferred Qualifications and Skills
- Bachelor's degree in Engineering or comparable field.
- Between 2 and 5 years of experience in R&D roles.
- Proficiency in SolidWorks for creating solid models and detailed drawings.
- Strong documentation and organizational skills.
- Ability to multitask and prioritize effectively in a dynamic, startup environment.
- Competent with Microsoft Word, Excel, and PowerPoint.
Compensation and Benefits
Spirair provides a competitive salary package with base pay ranging from $100,000 to $120,000 annually, dependent on experience, qualifications, and company equity considerations. Benefits include medical, dental, and vision insurance, paid time off, and a 401(k) plan.
