Role overview
Gloucestershire Health and Care NHS Foundation Trust is recruiting an exceptional senior leader to serve as Programme Director - Mental Health on behalf of the Gloucestershire Provider Partnership (GPP). Although the role sits within GHC as host employer, the post holder will work across the partnership to drive system-wide change and support the delivery of more integrated health and care services across Gloucestershire.
The GPP unites Gloucestershire Health and Care NHS Foundation Trust, Gloucestershire Hospitals NHS Foundation Trust and Gloucestershire’s GP Collaborative. Working with the Integrated Care Board, Gloucestershire County Council and the voluntary, community and social enterprise (VCSE) sector, the partnership aims to improve outcomes, reduce inequalities and create more joined-up, proactive care for local communities.
This post will focus on leading transformation in community mental health and urgent mental health care. Two other Programme Directors, covering UEC and Neighbourhood Health (Frailty), along with a Director of Transformation and PMO being recruited at the same time, will form a peer group for the successful candidate.
What the role involves
You will provide leadership on behalf of the partnership, helping shape and deliver major programme change across mental health services. The role calls for someone who can work confidently across organisations and professions, build agreement, and guide complex redesign work in a changing environment.
What the trust is looking for
The ideal candidate will be a seasoned and trustworthy leader with a strong history of delivering large transformation and service redesign programmes in complex health and care settings. You should bring substantial experience in mental health services, programme management and partnership working, together with the ability to influence senior stakeholders and develop consensus across boundaries.
Strong strategic judgement, resilience and leadership capability are essential, along with a genuine commitment to improving mental health outcomes and designing services that respond to local community needs.
About the organisation
GHC employs more than 5,000 colleagues delivering services across over 55 sites and in people’s homes. The organisation says it is focused on building a workplace culture rooted in civility, inclusion, diversity, belonging and trust.
Staff engagement is captured through annual surveys, regular Pulse surveys and other feedback channels. In the latest staff survey, 61% of colleagues responded. Reported highlights included:
- 72% would recommend the Trust as a place to work, placing it first among Provider Trusts in the South West for this measure.
- 76% would recommend the standard of care delivered by the Trust if a friend or relative needed treatment, also ranking it first in the South West.
- 81% said patient and service-user care is the Trust’s top priority, compared with an average of 64% in comparable NHS Trusts in England.
The Trust describes this as a strong position overall, while also acknowledging there is still significant scope for improvement. It remains committed to becoming a great place to work and to achieving consistent top-quartile performance in staff and Pulse surveys.
