Role Overview

The Programme Assistant position supports the delivery of large-scale legal events within The Economist's scheduled events business. This entry-level role involves managing speaker research, outreach, and moderator coordination under the mentorship of the senior programme editor. It offers a unique opportunity to gain hands-on experience in event management and editorial coordination, ideal for those aspiring to build a career in the events industry.

Core Responsibilities

  • Conducting agenda research and assisting in programme development by coordinating calls with industry experts and potential sponsors.
  • Taking responsibility for identifying, inviting, and onboarding speakers for assigned events, under guidance.
  • Handling all communications and logistical needs with speakers including information collection, preparation call scheduling between speakers and moderators, and coordinating travel and protocol.
  • Maintaining detailed and accurate records through spreadsheets, presentations, agenda documentation, and website updates.
  • Supporting event execution by preparing comprehensive briefing materials for speakers and moderators and managing pre-event preparation calls. Occasionally, assist on-site to ensure event operations run smoothly.

Essential Qualifications and Attributes

  • Fluent and articulate in spoken and written English.
  • Excellent interpersonal skills for confident, professional communication with senior stakeholders from business and government sectors.
  • Strong organizational and project management skills with an ability to meet strict deadlines.
  • Advanced research capabilities coupled with analytical thinking and problem-solving aptitude.
  • Good understanding of current affairs and ability to handle complex research independently.
  • A clear grasp of The Economist brand identity and its market positioning.
  • A proactive attitude and ability to collaborate effectively within a dynamic team.
  • Located in or willing to commute to Gurugram office at least three days weekly.
  • No formal educational degree requirements specified.

Working Conditions

The position requires a hybrid work pattern with a minimum of three days onsite presence in Gurugram.
