Job Overview
The Procedure Coder role at US Digestive Health involves accurately coding and entering procedures, infusion, pathology, and professional charges into the Electronic Medical Record (EMR) system.
Key Responsibilities
- Ensure coding and charge entries are completed within 48 hours post-service date.
- Review physician documentation to assign appropriate CPT and ICD-10 codes for services provided.
- Enter all charges into the practice management system promptly.
- Investigate and resolve any coding-related edits or holds affecting claims.
- Stay updated with current billing, coding, and insurance standards and guidelines.
- Respond to coding and billing inquiries from colleagues and patients.
- Manage facility and departmental communication by daily reviewing all correspondence, including emails.
- Participate in Clinical Quality initiatives established by the facility, ensuring compliance with ambulatory medical record documentation.
- Utilize the Ambulatory Medical Record (AMR) system effectively according to facility protocols during patient care.
Qualifications and Skills
- Preferred coding certification from AAPC or AHIMA.
- Minimum education requirement: High School Diploma or GED equivalent.
- At least two years of physician coding experience.
- Familiarity with outpatient CPT, ICD-10, HCPCS coding, and medical terminology.
- Understanding of legal requirements for medical billing and documentation.
- Strong organizational and computer proficiencies including Microsoft Office and electronic health record systems.

Work Environment and Conditions
- Role operates mainly within a professional office setting using standard office equipment such as computers, phones, photocopiers, filing cabinets, and fax machines.
- Physical demands include occasional standing, walking, sitting, reaching, and lifting or moving items up to 25 pounds.
- Standard full-time hours Monday through Friday.
- No travel requirements.
