About the Role
Join the Ministry of Foreign Affairs & Trade (MFAT) as a Principal Adviser focused on Language Capability, leading initiatives that build workforce language skills and promote high performance throughout a globally connected organization. This position is pivotal in shaping language capability frameworks, policies, programs, and standards to nurture foreign language skills within MFAT.
Key Duties
- Drive the implementation of the language capability initiative, applying policy and procedural adjustments.
- Develop and maintain a comprehensive dataset on language capabilities to aid workforce planning, investment decisions, and organizational reporting.
- Lead language learning programs by setting clear expectations and guidance for managers and participants involved in language training.
- Manage investments related to language development, identifying opportunities to optimize value and efficiency.
- Prepare detailed progress reports for senior leadership and governing bodies.
- Build and oversee key relationships, including establishing and managing a Language Capability Investment Group.
Candidate Profile
- In-depth expertise in language capability development principles and practices.
- Strong grasp of adult education, capability building, and organizational learning.
- Proven ability to convert strategic goals into actionable initiatives.
- Advanced analytical and problem-solving abilities.
- Excellent communication skills both written and verbal, with interpersonal adeptness.
- Ability to influence senior leaders and foster trusted partnerships.
- Relevant tertiary qualifications in fields such as education, languages, organizational development, human resources, or adult learning.
- Awareness of The Treaty of Waitangi and its relevance in the New Zealand public sector is advantageous.
Additional Information
This fixed-term appointment or secondment runs until 30 June 2027, located in central Wellington. The total remuneration package ranges from $129,969 to $175,835 annually, inclusive of KiwiSaver employer contributions. This role requires New Zealand citizenship or permanent residency and the ability to obtain and maintain a Confidential security clearance. While primarily corporate, occasional overseas postings might occur but require separate competitive selection.
