Performance Test Engineer

About the Role

We are in search of a meticulous and proficient Performance Test Engineer to create, develop, and implement performance testing approaches for enterprise-grade applications. The selected candidate will leverage hands-on expertise with various performance testing tools, application performance monitoring platforms, and will conduct in-depth performance evaluations spanning application, database, and infrastructure tiers.

Key Responsibilities

• Devise and implement detailed performance testing strategies, test plans, and scenarios aligned with system architecture, business needs, and anticipated workloads.
• Author, maintain, and execute scripts for performance tests using tools like JMeter, LoadRunner, NeoLoad, or Gatling.
• Execute various categories of performance testing including load, stress, endurance/soak, spike, capacity, and scalability testing.
• Emulate authentic user workflows and transaction rates to assess application responsiveness under diverse load conditions.
• Utilize APM and monitoring software such as Dynatrace, AppDynamics, or New Relic to observe application and infrastructure performance.
• Integrate metrics from applications, APIs, databases, infrastructure, and system levels with test outcomes to identify performance gaps.
• Diagnose and resolve performance constraints at different layers: UI, APIs/microservices, databases, servers, networks, and infrastructure components.
• Collaborate closely with development, architecture, DevOps, database, and infrastructure teams to investigate issues and apply optimization techniques.
• Establish and maintain performance test environments and test data to enable credible testing scenarios.
• Analyze metrics such as response time, throughput, resource consumption, error occurrences, and concurrency levels.
• Prepare comprehensive reports, dashboards, findings, and improvement suggestions for stakeholders and technical teams.
• Support tuning efforts, scalability evaluations, and capacity planning initiatives.
• Engage in performance requirements reviews throughout the application design and development phases, offering pertinent recommendations.
• Maintain all performance testing practices, artifacts, and documentation adhering to quality standards and best practices.

Mandatory Skills and Qualifications

• Demonstrable experience in performance testing, engineering, or application performance evaluation.
• Proficiency with one or several performance testing tools such as Apache JMeter, LoadRunner, NeoLoad, or Gatling.
• Hands-on expertise in designing and conducting load, stress, endurance, spike, and scalability tests.
• Practical experience with APM and monitoring platforms like Dynatrace, AppDynamics, New Relic, or similar.
• Comprehensive understanding of application architecture, distributed systems, APIs, databases, and enterprise infrastructure setup.
• Capability to analyze performance metrics and identify bottlenecks across application layers, databases, and infrastructure components.
• Familiarity with key performance indicators including response time, throughput, latency, CPU and memory usage, error rates, and resource consumption.
• Experience managing test data and configuring performance test environments.
• Strong analytical, diagnostic, and problem-resolution skills.
• Excellent communication skills, both verbal and written.
