Mobile Security Technician

About the Role

We are seeking a Mobile Security Technician to join Sun King's Cyber Security Team in Nairobi, Kenya. The role involves ethical hacking to identify vulnerabilities in Sun King devices, enhancing digital and financial inclusion for customers.

Key Responsibilities

• Perform offensive security evaluations on hardware, firmware, embedded OS, and payment systems on mobile devices.
• Reverse engineer firmware using static and dynamic analysis to find security weaknesses.
• Identify and exploit vulnerabilities in embedded systems including bootloaders, MDMs, Android kernel, secure boot, and cryptography.
• Create and implement proof-of-concept exploits to demonstrate security threats and business impact.
• Collaborate with product, hardware, and software teams to define security best practices and improve product robustness.
• Participate in threat modeling and architectural reviews for new products and features.
• Stay updated on emerging vulnerabilities, tools, and offensive research related to smartphone financing ecosystems.

Candidate Profile

• Strong knowledge of Android security, MDM, IoT architectures, and hardware security testing.
• Experience with hardware exploitation methods such as JTAG, SWD, UART debugging, side-channel attacks, and fault injections.
• Familiarity with tools like Flash 64, Pandora, Easy JTag, Chimera, CM2, and others.
• Proficient in reverse engineering with tools like Ghidra, IDA Pro, Binary Ninja and debugging tools including JTAGulator, OpenOCD, Bus Pirate.
• Experience modifying and analyzing firmware using binwalk, Firmadyne, QEMU.
• Knowledge of secure boot, TPM/TEE, flash encryption, and embedded security technologies.
• Programming and scripting skills in Python, C/C++, Bash, or similar languages.
• Understanding of common vulnerabilities such as memory corruption, insecure updates, and design flaws.
• Exposure to payment or fintech device security and secure provisioning environments.
