About Saudi Gold Refinery
Saudi Gold Refinery (SGR) is a Saudi company specializing in the refining of gold and precious metals, bullion production, and related value-added services. Role Summary
The Mining Superintendent will be based in Riyadh and oversee daily extraction and exploration activities at the company's gold mining sites. Their core responsibility is to secure a steady supply of high-quality ore to the refinery while strictly following safety and environmental protocols. They will manage drilling, blasting, and haulage operations in compliance with relevant Saudi regulations.
Key Duties
- Implement monthly mining plans by coordinating drilling and blasting to achieve production targets for ore tonnage and quality.
- Monitor daily operational metrics and address bottlenecks to ensure continuous feed to refining processes.
- Enforce safety compliance through permit-to-work and lockout/tagout procedures, including regular safety inspections to adhere to HSE policies and labor laws.
- Lead and manage teams of shift supervisors and equipment operators, including staff scheduling, performance evaluation, and certification management.
- Administer the budget for mining consumables like explosives and fuel, tracking usage and discovering cost efficiencies without compromising safety or output quality.
- Collaborate with geologists to optimize blasting techniques to reduce ore dilution and satisfy chemical and physical requisites for refining.
- Oversee contractors conducting drilling and earthmoving operations, ensuring fulfillment of contracts and authorizing payment based on performance verification.
- Coordinate with maintenance teams for preventive repairs on heavy equipment to reduce downtime and extend asset life.
- Act as the main liaison for MIM inspectors during site audits, ensuring ongoing compliance with extraction and exploration licenses.
Required Qualifications
- Bachelor's degree in Mining Engineering or a related discipline from a recognized institution.
- A minimum of 10 years' experience in open-pit mining with at least 5 years in a leadership position.
- Expertise in hard rock gold deposit drilling and blasting operations.
- Thorough knowledge of Saudi mining legislation and environmental regulations as governed by MIM.
- Proven ability to manage large teams including blue-collar workers and external contractors effectively.
- Strong analytical capabilities with proficiency in mine planning software and interpreting production data.
- Fluency in English for technical reporting and Arabic for onsite communications.
- Willingness to reside near the mining operation and work flexible hours, including weekends if necessary.
Preferred Qualifications
- Master's degree in Mining Engineering or Business Administration.
- Experience within vertically integrated mining and precious metal refining companies.
- Certification in advanced blast design or rock mechanics.
- Familiarity with LBMA Responsible Gold Guidance standards.
Performance Metrics
- Meet or exceed 95% of the annual ore production volume target.
- Maintain ore grade within ±5% of planned specifications.
- Achieve zero lost-time injuries and environmental incidents over a 12-month period.
- Reduce mining operating costs per ton by 5% compared to baseline.
- Ensure 90% availability of critical drilling and haulage equipment during shifts.
- Complete all mandatory safety trainings and competency assessments for direct reports on schedule.
- Submit monthly production and cost reports accurately and on time to senior management.
