Materials Controller

Role Overview

Designer Group is hiring a Materials Controller for its Kells, County Meath facility. The role sits within the off-site prefabrication and M&E manufacturing area and is part of a full-time, permanent position. The site is being developed to strengthen the delivery of complex mechanical and electrical projects through better quality control, higher productivity, more reliable programme delivery and expanded off-site manufacturing capacity.

The Materials Controller will ensure materials are received, stored, tracked and issued accurately so production has the right items at the right time. This is a practical, hands-on position for someone with experience in stores, logistics, warehouse coordination, materials management or a construction supply chain setting. The role involves close day-to-day coordination with production, procurement, project teams and suppliers.

Key Duties

• Accept incoming materials, equipment and deliveries, then verify and log them correctly.
• Confirm that goods received align with purchase orders, delivery paperwork and project needs.
• Keep stock information accurate through internal systems and supporting records.
• Release materials to production in line with work plans and operational schedules.
• Track inventory levels and raise any shortages, delays or stock mismatches.
• Take part in cycle counts, stock takes and broader inventory control tasks.
• Arrange materials within the facility so storage is safe, tidy, efficient and easy to access.
• Work with procurement, suppliers, project staff and production teams on material availability.
• Flag damaged, missing or incorrect items quickly and escalate issues where needed.
• Help plan and coordinate internal material movements across the facility.
• Make sure materials are labelled clearly, remain traceable and are assigned to the correct project or work package.
• Maintain strong housekeeping standards in stores and storage areas.
• Support compliance with health, safety, quality and environmental standards.
• Contribute to continuous improvement across stores operations, logistics and material flow.

Requirements

• Some prior experience in materials control, stores, warehouse, logistics or supply chain work.
• Background in construction, engineering, manufacturing, M&E or prefabrication would be beneficial.
• High accuracy and a strong eye for detail in stock handling and documentation.
• Well-developed organisational ability and comfort managing several priorities at once.
• Confidence working in a busy, practical, hands-on operational setting.
• Good communication skills and the ability to work effectively with production, procurement and site-based teams.
• Basic computer literacy, including experience with stock, ERP, procurement or warehouse software.
• Awareness of health and safety expectations in a stores, warehouse or manufacturing environment.
• Forklift certification or manual handling training would be useful, though neither is mandatory.

Desirable Background

• Experience handling M&E materials such as pipework, electrical parts, supports, containment, modules or prefabricated assemblies.
• Exposure to construction project delivery or off-site manufacturing environments.
• Use of stock control, barcode, ERP or materials tracking platforms.
• Ability to interpret basic material schedules, pick lists or project documents.
