Job overview
This role is for a Mechanical Maintenance Manager overseeing the Hot Strip Mill at an integrated steel manufacturing facility in Jajpur, Odisha. The position focuses on keeping plant assets dependable, available, and efficient through disciplined preventive, predictive, condition-based, and shutdown maintenance practices.

The selected professional will work to reduce downtime, avoid repeated failures, control maintenance spend, ensure compliance with applicable regulations, and strengthen maintenance capability across the team. Core responsibilities
- Organize and carry out preventive, predictive, and shutdown maintenance for the mechanical systems in the Hot Strip Mill.
- Improve equipment uptime and reliability by keeping breakdowns and stoppages to a minimum.
- Maintain and resolve issues in essential HSM assets such as the reheating furnace, roughing mill, finishing mill, down coiler, coil box, and hydraulic systems.
- Perform root cause analysis and put durable corrective and preventive measures in place.
- Prepare maintenance strategies, condition-monitoring plans, and predictive maintenance schedules.
- Manage critical spares, equipment refurbishment, and replacement planning in a timely manner.
- Balance cost control with high maintenance standards and operational reliability.
- Introduce practical engineering improvements to raise equipment performance and service life.
- Ensure adherence to statutory, safety, and environmental requirements.
- Guide, mentor, train, and develop maintenance staff to improve technical skills and execution quality.
- Work closely with production, projects, and engineering teams to meet overall plant targets.
- Track and review maintenance metrics including MTBF, MTTR, equipment availability, maintenance cost, and breakdown trends.
Requirements
- 8 to 12 years of experience in mechanical maintenance within an integrated steel plant.
- Direct, hands-on experience in Hot Strip Mill mechanical maintenance is mandatory.
- Strong working knowledge of reheating furnaces, roughing mills, finishing mills, down coilers, coil boxes, and hydraulic systems.
- Proven experience in preventive, predictive, condition-based, and shutdown maintenance methods.
- Experience in maintenance planning, troubleshooting, reliability enhancement, and condition monitoring.
- Solid understanding of hydraulic systems and rotating equipment.
- Exposure to refurbishment work, spare-parts planning, and equipment lifecycle management.
- Experience in large-scale steel manufacturing operations is essential.
- Strong analytical ability, problem-solving approach, and troubleshooting mindset.
- Capability to lead teams, build technical competency, and support people development.
- Clear communication and coordination skills.
- Safety-conscious approach with familiarity with statutory compliance.
Preferred qualification
B.E. or B.Tech in Mechanical Engineering.
